Horizon Europe launch event & virtual partnering brokerage ASEAN draws 600 people from 47 countries

Over 600 participants from 47 countries across Europe and ASEAN are currently attending a virtual 3-day information and matchmaking event to launch the European Union’s ‘Horizon Europe’ research programme in ASEAN. The event focuses on initiating inter-regional research partnerships for projects funded under the European Union’s ‘Horizon Europe’ research programme. The thematic focus of the event that runs from 20 to 22 July addresses key challenges facing global society including climate change, circular economy and disaster prevention.

The €95.5 billion ‘Horizon Europe’ programme will run from 2021-2027, and in addition to funding bottom-up research, is designed to focus on some of the world's biggest challenges, from cancer and climate change to the health of our cities and food supplies. It offers researchers in ASEAN the possibility to collaborate with large European projects, as well as to apply for generous grants available to individuals interested in spending part of their careers in Europe. It also presents opportunities for entrepreneurs and innovators with breakthrough, disruptive ideas interested in scaling them up in Europe.

The virtual event was opened by H.E. Igor Driesmans, EU Ambassador to ASEAN and H.E. Satvinder Singh, Deputy Secretary-General of ASEAN for ASEAN Economic Community.

The Horizon Europe Launch event ASEAN is organised by EURAXESS Worldwide, an initiative supported by the European Commission to promote international research collaboration, and the European’s Commission’s Directorate-General for Research & Innovation. The organisers are grateful for the much appreciated support of the ASEAN Secretariat.

Recordings of the event are available on the EURAXESS ASEAN YouTube channel.
