MSCA Postdoctoral Fellowships (PF) 2024 results: 93 LAC researchers among the 1696 selected

The European Commission announced the winners of the latest call for the Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions (MSCA) Postdoctoral Fellowships on 11th February 2025. With a total budget of €417 million, 1,696 experienced researchers have been selected to work on research and innovation projects spanning all scientific disciplines. Selected projects are in the fields of:

  •  social sciences and humanities (22.94%), 
  • life sciences (20.93%), 
  • information science and engineering (15.63%), 
  • chemistry (14.68%), 
  • physics (11.44%), 
  • environment and geosciences (10.5%), 
  • mathematics (2.06%) and 
  • economic sciences (1.83%).
     

The European Research Executive Agency (REA) received 10,360 applications for this call, 16.6 % of which were selected for funding.

Female awardees represent 43.8%. The selected applicants represent nearly 95 nationalities. They will work in 47 countries in Europe and the rest of the world.

Once grant agreements are finalised, the complete list of funded projects will be published on the same page and on CORDIS.

This was the third call of MSCA Postdoctoral Fellowships under the Horizon Europe programme for research and innovation. These fellowships give outstanding post-doctoral researchers the possibility to work on their own projects while receiving training and supervision to enhance their skills and boost their careers. The scheme includes two strands, European Postdoctoral Fellowships and Global Postdoctoral Fellowships. Both strands are open to researchers of any nationality, including individuals from the Latin American and Caribbean (LAC) region.
Under the scheme’s Global Postdoctoral Fellowships, postdoctoral researchers based in Europe can carry out their project in organisations based in the LAC region for up to two years, and then return to a country established in the European Union or countries associated to Horizon Europe for a year. Under both strands, researchers can also carry out shorter secondments anywhere in the world, including in the LAC region. 
 

PARTICIPATION LATIN AMERICAN AND CARIBBEAN COUNTRIES – STATISTICS


Eleven Global Postdoctoral Fellowships in Latin American and Caribbean (LAC) organisations have been shortlisted for funding. Organisations involved are based in Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Colombia and Mexico, and they will host 11 postdoctoral researchers for up to two years. 
With 7 Global fellows, Brazil is performing very well and attracting visiting researchers in 3 out of its 5 regions (Nonrth, North-east and South-east).

Individual researchers from the region were active in this call and 93 proposals for European Postdoctoral Fellowships have been selected. This represents a success rate of 13.65%. ost applicants and researchers selected are from Argentina (26), Brazil (28), Colombia (9), Mexico (13) and Chile (9).

Disclaimer: These statistics are subject to change and will only be confirmed once the grant agreements are signed with all the projects concerned. The final funding decision on some projects is subject to the association of some countries to Horizon Europe.

Next funding round coming soon
The next call for MSCA Postdoctoral Fellowships is planned to open on 8 May 2025.
