France - Eiffel scholarships for PhD and Master's degrees in 2025

The Eiffel Excellence Scholarship Programme was established by the French Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs to enable French higher education institutions to attract top foreign students to enrol in their masters and PhD programmes.

Eiffel Excellence Scholarship Programme supports:

- candidates up to 27 years old from developing countries to undertake a 12 to 36 months stay at Masters level

- candidates up to 32 years old from developing and industrialised countries to undertake a PhD (12 to 36 months scholarships)

Fields of study for which the scholarship is requested:

Science and Technology:

  • Biology and health
  • Ecological transition
  • Mathematics and Numeracy
  • Engineering sciences

Humanities and Social Sciences:

  • History French Language and Civilisation
  • Law and Political Science
  • Economics and Management

Who is eligible

  • Candidates from all nationalities can apply (except France). Candidates with dual nationality one of whose nationalities is French, are not eligible.
  • Candidates for the Master's level cannot be currently studying in France, and must be no more than 27 years old on the date of the selection committee (to be confirmed).
  • Candidates for the Doctorate level studying abroad are given priority over those who are already living in France. They must be no more than 32 years old at the time of the 2025 bid campaign (to be confirmed).

What is offered

1. Living allowance

  • For the Master level: Eiffel scholarship holders receive a monthly allowance of EUR 1 181, to which is added direct payment of several services.
  • For the Doctorate level: Eiffel doctoral scholarship holders receive a monthly allowance of EUR 1 800 to which is added direct payment of several services.

How to apply?

1st step: The candidate choose a French institution to apply

It is up to the candidates to choose the French institution according to the project of study. Any French higher education institution can apply.

  • Candidates are advised to contact the International Relations department of the university/school to know the deadline for the submission of applications.
  • Candidates may contact the French Embassy or Campus France office in their home country to seek support.

2nd step: The institutions submit their selected proposals

  • The French university/schools send the application of the selected students.

Deadline for institutions: 8 January 2025 (Students should contact their chosen French institution to know their deadline for application).
