The Inter-American Institute for Global Change Research invites researchers from eligible countries in Latin America and the Caribbean to join the new Belmont Forum Collaborative Research Action on Climate, Environment and Health.
The Belmont Forum is a group of funding agencies from around the world that support transdisciplinary, globally-representative research groups and coproduction/participatory methods to address various global environmental change topics.
Who is eligible
Institutions eligible for IAI awards are colleges, universities, professional societies, not-for-profit organizations, or governmental institutions which have formal research programs. Early and mid-career scholars are encouraged to apply and take key responsibilities in the project, including as Principal Investigator (IP) and Co-PI. Any scientist from natural and social sciences, and the humanities, or stakeholder (as described in the call text) is eligible to apply as PI, Co-PI, or key investigator.
The IAI will support the participation of research teams from Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil (excluding São Paulo), Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Dominican Republic, Ecuador, Guatemala, Jamaica, Mexico, Panama, Paraguay, and Peru. Country participation will be considered based on the location of the institution hosting the PI or Co-PI requesting funding from the IAI.
What is offered
Financial resources will be provided, ranging from $100,000 to $300,000 USD per project. It is anticipated funding for 5 projects.
The maximum total budget request to IAI by a single consortium must not exceed $300,000 USD including accountable administrative costs. Consortia that include 1 eligible country can apply for up to $100,000 USD. Consortia that include two eligible countries can apply for up to $200,000 USD. Consortia that include 3 or more eligible countries can apply for a maximum of $300,000 USD.
Teams may apply with a transdisciplinary project focusing on:
- Decision-science of environmental behavior and implementation
- Food, environment and biological security
- Climate Risks to Ecosystems and Populations
Research projects should consider
- Scalable implementation plans
- Enhanced Early Warning System predictability
- Innovative, open data solutions
Collaborative research approaches should address
- Diversity, Equality and Inclusion
- A focus on vulnerable communities
- A focus on Indigenous and local communities
Projects can build capacity by
- Strengthening communities of practice
- Developing Low and Low Middle-Income Countries’ workforce
The IAI will support research projects for up to 3 years.
