The Association of European Researchers in Brazil and EURAXESS LAC are organizing a series of webinars aimed at providing information for European researchers about the Brazilian higher education and research landscape. The information about each event can be found below and this page will be constantly updated.

1. Higher education in Brazil – which opportunities for European researchers? - 6 June

To launch the series, Dr. Concepta McManus Pimentel, Professor at UnB and former Director of International Relations of CAPES (2016-2019) was invited to give a keynote lecture. 

She gave an overview of the Brazilian higher education and research system

Target audience: European researchers and stakeholders willing to work with Brazilian HEIs, and in particular those junior researchers willing to stay in Brazil.

2. How to come to Brazil during a PhD? - 12 July, 10:30 BRT

In this webinar, the speakers shared their experiences as European PhD candidates in Brazil: how did they get their positions? How much of their PhD time was spent in a Brazilian university? What about funding? What was it like to learn and develop their research in Brazil, coming from a European background? Which perspectives did this PhD in Brazil open to them?

3. How to get a postdoc position in Brazil? - 9 August, 10:30 BRT

This webinar focused on the post-doc experience of European researchers coming to Brazil: What are the existing programmes accessible to European researchers? How to find a host institution and get contact with potential Brazilian supervisors? How to submit a successful application and get funded? What are the onboarding administrative processes and how to get prepared as best as possible? What about a postdoc in a public research institute and the relationship with industry? University vs. Research Institute: different postdoc experiences, different relationships with students, different relationships with private companies.

4. How to get a permanent position in a Brazilian university? - 20 September, 10:30 BRT

In this webinar, Klaus Hartfelder ?? and Nicolas Maillard ?? shared their experiences as professors in Brazilian universities: How is academic selection for a professor position organized in Brazil and how accessible is it to foreign candidates? What is a successful application and how to get prepared for the writing and oral steps of the process? What are the administrative processes to get to know before applying? What is to be expected from a career in a Brazilian university?

5. How is a Brazilian University organized? - 20 October, 10:30 BRT

In this session, Nicolas Maillard and Klaus Capelle gave an overview of higher education in Brazil, presenting and contextualizing information about the types and number of Brazilian universities, and the number of undergraduate and graduate courses, in addition to mentioning the evaluation system and the main funding agencies. Sébastien Antoine moderated the session. You can find the slides from the panellists below:

The Association of European Researchers in Brazil, launched in January 2022, is aiming at facilitating the integration of European researchers moving to Brazil, for short, long-term, or permanent stays, and at amplifying the collaboration among Brazil-based researchers who are doing research with Europe.
