Postdoc fellowships in multidisciplinary fields related to public health, in Ireland - DOROTHY (MSCA)

dorothy

DOROTHY is a postdoctoral research programme open to researchers from all disciplines who wish to focus on research into public health crises.

Fellowships provide an opportunity for an international experience and reintegration to Ireland, offers excellent training, career development and networking opportunities, and gives applicants an opportunity to provide innovative solutions to public health crises. The programme will break down barriers between different academic disciplines by driving collaboration between researchers through funding research which will shed light on public health crises from wide-ranging perspectives.

DOROTHY will recruit and train 25 outstanding researchers from a variety of disciplines who will shed light on public health crises from wide-ranging perspectives. Fellows will be recruited for 36-month projects by an Irish higher education institution (HEI). They will be hosted in the first 18 months (outgoing phase) in a higher education institution outside Ireland, and in the following 18 months (return phase) in a higher education institution in Ireland. Applicants are encouraged to include a non-academic secondment (between 3 and 6 months) in their project, which can take place at any stage of the project. Fellows will benefit from extensive training opportunities provided by their outgoing and return HEIs, and from programme-wide training. They will gain valuable intersectoral exposure (including through the intersectoral secondments) and will become adept at communicating their research findings to a wide array of relevant stakeholders, including policymakers and the population at large.

DOROTHY aims to recruit top-class researchers from anywhere in the world, funding their projects on the basis of excellence. All disciplines are welcome across the sciences, engineering, arts and humanities provided that the projects relate to public health crises.

Scope and focus

Public health crises are too complex to be tackled in silos. Responding to the need to equip European societies with experts who are specially trained to address these challenges in a cooperative fashion, we have designed DOROTHY COFUND to recruit, train and launch the careers of 25 excellent fellows through 36-month fellowships.

Fellowships will have an international outgoing phase of 18 months, followed by a return phase to Ireland of 18 months. Fellows will be encouraged to include a non-academic secondment. Two recruitment calls will be run. The programme will assist fellows in accelerating their careers through excellent training and networking opportunities in the Irish and EU innovation ecosystem.

Who?

The definition of ER in the H2020 MSCA programme will be applied: ERs must, at the call deadline, be in possession of a doctoral degree or have at least four years of full-time equivalent research experience.
