Another BRICS in the Wall II – From Ford to BYD: How the Dispute Over the International Economic Order Shaped the Future of the Camaçari Industrial Hub

The Graduate Program in International Relations at UFBA (PPGRI-UFBA) invites you to the event Another BRICS in the Wall II, which will take place on 27 March 2025, at 9:00 AM, at João Gonçalves Auditorium (Reitor Felipe Serpa Lecture Pavilion – Ondina Campus).

Coordinated and organized by AERB member Giorgio Michalopoulos, Prof. Andrea Califano, and graduate students from PPGRI, the event is funded by the Young Scholars Initiative (New Economic Thinking) and sponsored by the European Association of Researchers in Brazil (AERB), in partnership with the BRICS+ Salvador Summer School. It is part of a broader discussion that began in April 2024 with the initiative Another BRICS in the Wall: New Walls of Protectionism or a Force Toward a Multipolar World?

Focusing on the transition of the Camaçari industrial hub, Another BRICS in the Wall II will explore themes such as China’s rise, BRICS+ and multipolarity, workers’ rights, and the socioeconomic impacts of BYD’s arrival. The discussion will highlight how globalization manifests in the territory and examine the role of emerging players (BRICS, China, Brazil) across different sectors of society.

Simultaneous translation to and from Portuguese will be available.

The event is open to the public, and registration will be available on-site from 8:30 AM.
