Call for Applicants: Japan Past & Present Digital Humanities Japan Development Team

Japan Past & Present (JPP), a digital platform and repository for open-access teaching and research resources sponsored by the Yanai Initiative for Globalizing Japanese Humanities at UCLA and Waseda University, invites applications for a short-term (2-month) team to assist in the development of our online resources related to digital humanities resources for Japan Studies. 

This team’s goal will be to 

  • develop recommendations for the organization of information and logistical governance of the DH Japan segment of the JPP website
  • make recommendations for incorporating existing content from the DH Japan Wiki (information on tools, tutorials, etc.)
  • strategize effective methods for developing future content for DH Japan project that will benefit the broader Japan Studies community and cater to varying levels of DH experience
  • recommend sustainable solutions for supporting international events (conferences, symposia, workshops, etc.) related to digital Japan studies and methods in the long term

Term: 2 months (July 1 - August 21, 2024)
Location: Remote (via Zoom)
Commitment: est. 2-3 hrs/week
Compensation: $30 USD/hour*

*Variations in compensation may apply depending on laws or regulations pertaining to your individual circumstances or institution.

Eligibility:

  • MA degree or equivalent (minimum)
  • scholars of all disciplines, specializations, and career stages in Japanese Studies
  • individuals who have previously served on a JPP project team are not eligible to apply

Requirements:

  • general knowledge of digital humanities and methods
  • exceptional information organization and project management skills
  • multilingual scholarly networking abilities
  • good communication skills (particularly as part of a team)

**Established or retired scholars who do not wish to receive monetary compensation may choose to yield their funding to support other JPP projects.
