EUROPE: 10 PhD positions in the field of Engineering

CIRCOPAV is a Doctoral Training Network that aims to provide high-level international, inter-disciplinary and inter-sectorial and training to ten doctoral candidates to achieve Circular and Connected Pavements for carbon-neutral digital roads.

The network is composed of 8 universities, 8 industrial companies and a road administration, across 8 countries and 3 continents, and combine the transportation, construction engineering, sustainability, electronics and data science sectors to create a new generation of creative, entrepreneurial and innovative leaders for the next generation of roads. CIRCOPAV invites applications for 10 PhD candidates (PhdC) positions available, being the estimated starting date 1st of February 2023 and the duration 3 years.

 

PhdC1 Capitan: Collaborative Auscultation of Pavement Infrastructures Through the Application of Navigators. Position details:

PhdC2WaveRoad: Digitalization of roads structures for non-destructive analysis: from laboratory to road. Position details:

Benefits

Benefits will be according to Marie Curie fellowship under MSCA Doctoral Networks conditions. Regarding salary, two main allowances will be paid:

  1. Living allowance*: 3400 €, with a country correction coefficient.

  2. Mobility allowance*: 600 €

*Minus all compulsory deductions under national legislation.

If the recruited doctoral candidate has or acquires family obligations during the action duration, a family allowance will be paid.

Moreover, following the "Women and Science" movement, CIRCOPAV encourages and promotes the participation of women within the project. All partners are aimed to exercise a policy of equal opportunities at all times.

Last but not least, CIRCOPAV will correspondingly welcome researchers with refugee status (as defined by the Geneva Convention), who will benefit from less restrictive mobility rules.

Eligibility criteria

Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions Eligibility rules apply. Particularly:

  1. Mobility Rules: The researcher (any nationality) must not have resided or carried out his/her main activity (work, studies, etc.) in the country of his/her host organisation for more than 12 months in the 3 years immediately prior to his/her recruitment (excluding vacations and short stays).

  2. Be a doctoral candidate: the candidate must not be in possession of a doctoral degree at the date of the recruitment (Researchers who have successfully defended their doctoral thesis but who have not yet formally been awarded the doctoral degree will not be considered eligible.)

Skills/Qualifications

Engineering (civil enginering, mechanical engineering, electronic engineering,...) ; Master Degree or equivalent that allows for PhD studies enrolment

  • REQUIRED EDUCATION LEVEL

    • Engineering: Master Degree or equivalent

    • Architecture: Master Degree or equivalent

  • REQUIRED LANGUAGES

    • ENGLISH: Excellent

 

Selection process

Interested candidates should send an application (in English) containing:

  1. Researcher declaration document including:

    • (a) self-declaration about Eligibility*;

    • (b) reasoned specification of the positions applied;

    • (c) self-declaration about English proficiency (max. 1 page)

  2. Applicant CV (max. 4 pages)

  3. Major academic transcripts (bachelor and master, if any)

  4. Personal motivation letter (max. 300 words)

  5. Research statement in accordance to the Research Project applied (max. 500 words/per project applied). See the list of Research Projects in the Basic Information Section.

  6. (optional) Up to 3 recommendation letters from CIRCOPAV external recognized experts.

* Physical evidence may be required before the signature of the contract.
