Job Description:
A call is open for up to 1 position as Research Assistants in Informatics Engineering at ARDITI in Madeira (Funchal, Portugal), under “Smart Island Hub within the scope of application nº 761 presented to the Digital Innovation Hubs (DIH) measure, under the terms of AAC nº. 03/C16-i03/2022), financed by the European Union and national funds through the Institute for Support to Small and Medium Enterprises and Innovation (IAPMEI) and the Recovery and Resilience Plan.
The research group of Prof. Morgado Dias (ARDITI and UMa) is looking for candidates for project “Smart Islands Hub”, in Signal Processing with Artificial Intelligence techniques to develop pilot tests with companies.
In this context, ARDITI is looking for 1 Research Assistant, with a background in Informatics Engineering.
The researcher will collaborate in:
- Develop a collaboration plan with companies for the digital transition and integration of Artificial Intelligence.
- Implementation of the solutions prepared in the previous point in specific cases presented by partner companies.
Admission requirements:
Candidates must meet the following requirements, skills and competencies:
- A master’s in informatics engineering or similar, completed before arrival.
- Must be registered as a doctoral student; This criterion is mandatory and reason for exclusion from this competition, if it is not possible to comply.
- At least 3 years of experience with Artificial Intelligence as well as image and video processing.
- Teamwork spirit.
- Self-motivation and independent working ability.
- Previous published work is a preference factor.
- Good oral and spoken English as well as good communication skills. TOEFL or IELTS scores are encouraged.
Workplace:
The work will be conducted at ARDITI (Funchal, Portugal) under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Morgado Dias, at ARDITI facilities or University of Madeira (UMa).
Prof. Dr. Morgado Dias research expertise includes Machine Learning, FPGAs and Renewable Energy.

Fellowship length:
The fellowship will have a length of 6 months,eventually renewable , with an expected start date of November 1st, 2023.
Monthly stipend:
The student will receive a stipend of 1 199,64 €/month free of taxes.

The following elements should be included in the email:
- Brief description of the candidate, research ability and research interest.
- English curriculum.
- Recommendation letters are facultative but can contribute positively to the evaluation.
- Proof of enrollment in academic program (doctorate);
- Proof of minimum experience of 3 years in the field of Artificial Intelligence (for example, publications, published reports).
- Degree certificate (applicants with academic degrees obtained abroad will have to present a certificate of recognition registration in accordance with applicable legislation);
Selection Process:
The curricular selection process will be assessed (on a scale of 0 to 20 values) based on the following criteria:
- Curriculum Vitae (30%)
- Former research experience (20%)
- Selected candidates might be invited for an interview or short exam (50%).
If there is no interview, the criteria are weighted as follows:

All candidates will be notified by email.
Complaint and appeal procedures:
According to ARDITI Regulation, if wanting, after receiving the final evaluation results, the applicant has a period of 10 working days after the notification, to contest under the terms provided for in the Portuguese administrative Procedure Code (Código do Procedimento Administrativo). The candidate shall respond, in writing, to: bolsas.projetos@arditi.pt. The letter should be addressed to the Chairman of the Board of Directors of ARDITI.
