Description of the potential research project :
Potential title of the project : The economic measurement of environmental effectiveness
Environmental taxation is one of the measures designed to promote a shift towards more environmentally friendly choices. This type of taxation is part of a movement that began in the early twentieth century, when taxation became a fully-fledged tool of economic, social, cultural and now environmental public policy. However, the concept of environmental taxation remains vague in its contours, and even in its objectives: between changing behaviour and using the proceeds of taxation to benefit the ecological transition. Environmental taxation, insofar as it tends to influence the behaviour of citizens and economic agents, can be described as behavioural taxation. It guides choices through incentives (e.g. tax credits for green investments, such as energy transition), or sanctions them through coercive measures (e.g. carbon tax).
The question is how effective these measures are, both in terms of the behavior of the taxpayers and economic agents concerned, and in terms of preserving the environment. This project focuses on taxation and the economy in France and the EU. An international perspective is a plus.
To carry out this analysis, we are looking for a candidate with a PhD in economics with a good knowledge of behavioral economics.
