Description

A hosting offer for the MSCA Postdoctoral Fellowships 2023 call is available at Magnonic and Photonic Devices Group, led by Assist. Prof. Dr. Mehmet Cengiz Onbasli at Koç University, Istanbul. The research is going to be related to the PI’s ERC Starting Grant SKYNOLIMIT (no. 948063) and his ERC Proof of Concept project SuperPHOTON (no. 101100718) and his earlier research on photonic integrated circuits (PIC). The research aims to use molecular beam epitaxy, sputtering, nanofabrication and device testing techniques to design PIC with heteroepitaxially grown 2D quantum emitters with high figures of merit (near-deterministically generated coherent and/or entangled states with long coherence times, high brightness, massively parallel deliberate positioning on chip, and efficient coupling). These circuit might then enable a scalable path for quantum computation and sensing using Si CMOS quantum PICs.

Applicants must have a recent Ph.D. degree in electrical engineering, materials science, physics or in a related field along with a strong publication record. A strong motivation and curiosity to do high-quality quantum materials research is essential. The successful candidate is expected to work meticulously in experimental 2D epitaxial growth and characterization. Skills in molecular beam epitaxy, thin film characterization (RHEED, x-ray diffraction, x-ray reflectometry, Raman/photoluminescence/UV-Visible and FTIR spectroscopy), and multiproject wafer tapeouts (photonic circuit design using FDTD, Interconnect, layout design software and process design kits of major foundries) are expected. Experimental skills in photonic integrated circuit testing instrumentation are required. The successful candidate has strong cross-disciplinary communication and organizational skills.

Applicants should send their CV to Dr. Mehmet Cengiz Onbaşlı, monbasli@ku.edu.tr and prepare and deliver a remote 30-minute presentation based on their Ph.D. research.
