Description

A hosting offer for the MSCA Postdoctoral Fellowships 2023 call is available at Magnonic and Photonic Devices Group, led by Assist. Prof. Dr. Mehmet Cengiz Onbasli at Koç University, Istanbul. The research is going to be related to the PI’s ERC Starting Grant SKYNOLIMIT (no. 948063) and his ERC Proof of Concept project SuperPHOTON (no. 101100718). The research aims to use molecular beam epitaxy, sputtering, nanofabrication and device characterization techniques to design ultralow power, ultra-wideband spintronic devices that leverage new topological magnetic insulator and transition metal dichalcogenide nanointerfaces with spin-charge interconversion efficiencies exceeding those of the state-of-the-art materials. These MBE-grown films are going to be used to design logic, memory, nonvolatile neural processing unit (NPU), sensors, superconducting single photon detector, and other functional devices.

Applicants must have a recent Ph.D. degree in electrical engineering, materials science, physics or in a related field along with a strong publication record. A strong motivation and curiosity to do high-quality scientific research is essential. The successful candidate is expected to work meticulously in experimental epitaxial growth and characterization. Specifically, skills in epitaxial thin film growth characterization using x-ray diffraction and reflectometry, optical spectroscopy (Raman, photoluminescence, UV-Visible and FTIR), magnetometry (VSM, SQUID, Kerr and/or Faraday rotation) are expected. Experimental skills in electronic measurement and instrumentation are required. Experience with nanofabrication and vacuum systems is an advantage. The successful candidate has strong cross-disciplinary communication and organizational skills to work in diverse research teams and collaboration.
