Description

IMDEA Materials Institute is looking for postdoctoral researchers willing to apply for Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions (MSCA) Postdoctoral Fellowships (PF) in call 2024 (deadline 11/09/2023). IMDEA Materials Institute has a long track record of hosting MSCA fellows (around 30 fellows hosted, 8 more joining along the year 2024) and has obtained outstanding success rates in recent calls of MSCA PF (around 47% success rate, nearly three times the average for the engineering panel in which we submit most proposals).

Interested candidates (if successful) will work under the supervision of Dr. Damien Tourret, head of the Modeling & Simulation of Materials Processing (MSMP) group at IMDEA Materials Institute. The candidate will work on studying the emergence and evolution of complex microstructures in advanced materials, such as metals and alloys. The MSMP group at IMDEA Materials is involved in developing theoretical and computational models, based on classical thermodynamics and kinetics, physical metallurgy, and multiscale materials modeling across scales (from atomistic to continuum macroscopic scales). Ongoing projects and group expertise revolves around advanced solidification processing (e.g. casting, welding, additive manufacturing, …), solid-state phase transformations, nucleation and crystal growth mechanisms, alloy design, as well as high-performance computing (e.g. advanced algorithms and parallelization strategies). All projects are closely linked to experimental research works in collaborative groups, both at IMDEA and across the world, in particular using advanced in situ diagnostics, such as X-ray imaging (hence, some experimentally-focused research projects are also relevant to the group activities).

HOW TO SUBMIT YOUR EXPRESSION OF INTEREST:

Interested candidates, please email your resume and a brief outline of the proposed research project (2 pages maximum) to Dr. Damien Tourret (damien.tourret@imdea.org) before July 15th 2024.

DESCRIPTION OF THE MSCA POST-DOCTORAL FELLOWSHIPS:

The purpose of the MSCA Postdoctoral Fellowships (MSCA PF) is to enhance the creative and innovative potential of researchers holding a PhD, wishing to acquire new skills through advanced training and international, interdisciplinary and inter-sectoral mobility. This is achieved by implementing a research project at a host institution. The fellowship typically covers the researcher's two-year salary, research costs and overheads for the host institution.

The mobility rule of MSCA PF requires that the researcher (candidate) has not resided or carried out their main activity (work, studies, etc.) in the country of their host organization (Spain, in the case of IMDEA Materials Institute) for more than 12 months in the 3 years immediately before the call deadline (11/09/2023 for call 2024). Moreover, only candidates with research experience up to 8 years postdoc from the date the PhD degree was granted are eligible (with possible exceptions).
