Description

IMDEA Materials Institute is looking for postdoctoral researchers willing to apply for Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions (MSCA) Postdoctoral Fellowships (PF) in call 2023 (deadline 13/09/2023). IMDEA Materials Institute has a long track record of hosting MSCA fellows and has obtained excellent success rates in recent calls of MSCA PF (approximately twice the average for the engineering panel in which we submit most proposals).

Interested candidates (if successful) will work under the supervision of Prof. Ignacio Romero, head of the Computational Solid Mechanics (CSM) group at IMDEA Materials Institute and Prof. of Mechanical Engineering at the Technical University of Madrid, and Dr. Srdjan Milenkovic, head of the Solidification Processing and Engineering (SPRING) group at IMDEA Materials Institute. The candidate will work on modelling and/or experiments of the recycling process of low-quality steel scrap. The CMS and SPRING groups at IMDEA Materials are involved in developing and optimizing the recycling process of low-quality steel scrap, among other research lines. IMDEA Materials Institute has facilities to develop and optimize the steel scrap recycling process both experimentally and using integrated computational engineering. From the experimental point of view, the Institute has arc and induction melting furnaces for scrap recycling. In addition, the Institute has facilities for multiscale characterization techniques (including in-situ methods). Another strength of the Institute is the formulation, analysis, and implementation of numerical methods for complex problems in Computational Mechanics of Solids, Fluids, and Structures, which can interact with material development.

HOW TO SUBMIT YOUR EXPRESSION OF INTEREST:

Interested candidates, please email your resume and a brief outline of the proposed research project (2 pages maximum) to Dr. Srdjan Milenkovic (srdjan.milenkovic@imdea.org) or Prof. Ignacio Romero (ignacio.romero@imdea.orgbefore July 1st  2023.

DESCRIPTION OF THE MSCA POST-DOCTORAL FELLOWSHIPS:

The purpose of the MSCA Postdoctoral Fellowships (MSCA PF) is to enhance the creative and innovative potential of researchers holding a PhD, wishing to acquire new skills through advanced training and international, interdisciplinary and inter-sectoral mobility. This is achieved by implementing a research project at a host institution. The fellowship typically covers the researcher's two-year salary, research costs and overheads for the host institution.

The mobility rule of MSCA PF requires that the researcher (candidate) has not resided or carried out their main activity (work, studies, etc.) in the country of their host organization (Spain, in the case of IMDEA Materials Institute) for more than 12 months in the 3 years immediately before the call deadline (expected to be September 13th 2023 for call 2023). Moreover, only candidates with research experience up to 8 years postdoc from the date the PhD degree was granted are eligible (with possible exceptions).
