IMDEA Materials Institute is looking for postdoctoral researchers willing to apply for Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions (MSCA) Postdoctoral Fellowships (PF) in call 2023 (deadline 13/09/2023). IMDEA Materials Institute has a long track record of hosting MSCA fellows and has obtained excellent success rates in recent calls of MSCA PF (approximately twice the average for the engineering panel in which we submit most proposals).

Interested candidates (if successful) will work under the supervision of Dr. Damien Tourret, head of the Modeling and Simulation of Materials Processing (MSMP) group at IMDEA Materials Institute. The candidate will work on modeling of microstructure formation, evolution, and/or materials degradationin metals and alloys using mesoscale modeling techniques (e.g. phase-field).The MSMP group at IMDEA Materials aims at understanding, modeling, and predicting microstructure formation (e.g. crystal growth during solidification processing), evolution (e.g. solid-state phase transformations during heat treatements), and currently exploring research directions toward modeling of materials degradation (e.g. oxidation, corrosion, and bio-degradation) using computational thermodynamics and kinetics (e.g. CalPhaD and phase-field techniques). IMDEA Materials Institute has several ongoing projects that can provide experimental data in any of these directions to validate and/or calibrate models. In turn, the developed models are used to guide the design of new experiments and optimize the processing conditions of various processes.

DESCRIPTION OF THE MSCA POST-DOCTORAL FELLOWSHIPS:

The purpose of the MSCA Postdoctoral Fellowships (MSCA PF) is to enhance the creative and innovative potential of researchers holding a PhD, wishing to acquire new skills through advanced training and international, interdisciplinary and inter-sectoral mobility. This is achieved by implementing a research project at a host institution. The fellowship typically covers the researcher's two-year salary, research costs and overheads for the host institution.

The mobility rule of MSCA PF requires that the researcher (candidate) has not resided or carried out their main activity (work, studies, etc.) in the country of their host organization (Spain, in the case of IMDEA Materials Institute) for more than 12 months in the 3 years immediately before the call deadline (expected to be September 13th 2023 for call 2023). Moreover, only candidates with research experience up to 8 years postdoc from the date the PhD degree was granted are eligible (with possible exceptions).
