Description
IMDEA Materials Institute is looking for post-doctoral researchers willing to apply for Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions (MSCA) Postdoctoral Fellowships (PF) in call 2021. IMDEA Materials Institute has a long track record of hosting MSCA fellows and has obtained outstanding success rates in recent calls of MSCA PF.
Interested candidates (if successful) will work in multiscale modeling in mechanics and multiphysical problems under the supervision of Prof. Javier Segurado, Head of the Multiscale Materials Modelling (MMM) group at IMDEA Materials Institute. The research lines in which the MMM group is currently active, and in which the candidate could work are:
- Crystal plasticity and polycrystalline homogenization
- Micromechanics based Fatigue and Fracture simulation
- Higher order constitutive models: gradient plasticity, non-local approaches
- Multiscale problems in polycrystals
- FFT based homogenization
- Coupled multiphysical problems
- Acoustics and dynamical problems in polycrystals
The MMM group is very active with several top-notch PhDs and Postdocs from different countries working together. In the last years we have developed state-of-the-art simulation codes (for FFT-based homogenization (FFTMAD) and crystal plasticity simulations (CAPSUL)), some of them being now licensed and commercial. We publish every year several papers in the most important journals of the area (Journal of the Mechanics and Physics of Solids, International Journal of Plasticity or Computer Methods in Applied Mechanics and Engineering), take part in many EU projects (FET-open, NMBP, etc…) and have a large network of international collaborators (UCLA, Los Alamos, Texas A&M, Eccole Polytechnique, etc.).
By working in the MMM group at IMDEA Materials, you would be able to collaborate and learn from people all around the world working in different areas. Also, collaborations can be extended to other research groups at the Institute with expertise in experimental micromechanics (in situ SEM and TEM test, EBSD, nano-indentation,3D tomography, etc.) and alternative simulation techniques (Calphad and phase-field modeling of solidification, DFT, atomistics, machine learning techniques, etc).
HOW TO SUBMIT YOUR EXPRESSION OF INTEREST:
Interested candidates please send your resume and a brief outline of the proposed research project (2 pages maximum) via email to Prof. Javier Segurado (javier.segurado@imdea.org) before July 15th 2021.
DESCRIPTION OF THE MSCA POSTDOCTORAL FELLOWSHIPS:
The purpose of the MSCA Postdoctoral Fellowships (MSCA PF) is to enhance the creative and innovative potential of researchers holding a PhD, wishing to acquire new skills through advanced training and international, interdisciplinary and inter-sectoral mobility. The grant typically covers two years' salary, research costs and overheads for the host institution.
The mobility rule requires that the researcher has not resided or carried out their main activity (work, studies, etc.) in the country of their host organization (Spain, in the case of IMDEA Materials Institute) for more than 12 months in the 3 years immediately prior to the call deadline (expected to be October 12th 2021 for call 2021). Moreover, only candidates with research experience up to 8 years postdoc from the date the PhD degree was granted are eligible (with possible exceptions).
