Description
IMDEA Materials Institute is looking for post-doctoral researchers willing to apply for Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions (MSCA) Postdoctoral Fellowships (PF) in call 2021. IMDEA Materials Institute has a long track record of hosting MSCA fellows and has obtained outstanding success rates in recent calls of MSCA PF.
Interested candidates (if successful) will work under the supervision of Dr. Damien Tourret, Head of the Modeling & Simulation of Materials Processing (MSMP) group at IMDEA Materials Institute. The candidate will work in the development, implementation, and multi-scale coupling of computational models of phase transformations and microstructure evolution in metallic alloys. The MSMP group at IMDEA Materials is involved, among others research directions, in the development of modeling strategies for additive manufacturing (a.k.a. 3D printing) of metals, using computational thermodynamics (CalPhaD), phase-field models, and developing novel multiscale models for dendritic growth and microstructure formation. Materials of interest range from superalloys for high-temperature applications (e.g. superalloys for aeronautics), to lightweight structural metals (e.g. Mg alloys for automotive applications). Research activities range from applied projects coordinated by industries (e.g. ITP Aero, ArcelorMittal) to more fundamental investigations into the mechanisms of microstructure formation (e.g. exploring the effect of fluid flow or nonequilibirium due to high cooling rates on the growth of microstructures from the liquid state). All activities within the group take place in a very collaborative environment, including experimental activities and international collaborations.
HOW TO SUBMIT YOUR EXPRESSION OF INTEREST:
Interested candidates please send your resume and a brief outline of the proposed research project (2 pages maximum) via email to Dr. Damien Tourret (damien.tourret@imdea.org) before July 15th 2021.
DESCRIPTION OF THE MSCA POSTDOCTORAL FELLOWSHIPS:
The purpose of the MSCA Postdoctoral Fellowships (MSCA PF) is to enhance the creative and innovative potential of researchers holding a PhD, wishing to acquire new skills through advanced training and international, interdisciplinary and inter-sectoral mobility. The grant typically covers two years' salary, research costs and overheads for the host institution.
The mobility rule requires that the researcher has not resided or carried out their main activity (work, studies, etc.) in the country of their host organization (Spain, in the case of IMDEA Materials Institute) for more than 12 months in the 3 years immediately prior to the call deadline (expected to be October 12th 2021 for call 2021). Moreover, only candidates with research experience up to 8 years postdoc from the date the PhD degree was granted are eligible (with possible exceptions).
