Description
IMDEA Materials Institute is looking for post-doctoral researchers willing to apply for a Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions (MSCA) Individual Fellowships (IF), call 2020. IMDEA Materials Institute has a long track record hosting MSCA fellows and has obtain outstanding success rates in recent calls of MSCA IF.
Interested candidates (if successful) will work under the supervision of Dr. Federico Sket, head of In-situ processing and mechanical characterization of materials group at IMDEA Materials Institute. The candidate will work non-destructive X-ray inspection techniques to provide real-time information about composite manufacturing processes. The analysis of this information of a real manufacturing process (e.g. based on pattern recognition and artificial intelligence) will be exploited to modify, discard or maintain the conditions during processing. The developed technology will be applied to autoclave and out-of-autoclave curing process (based on vacuum bag only –VBO–) of a fiber reinforced polymer, during its inspection with X-rays. The proposal focused on the application of advanced characterization X-ray methods (lab and synchrotron radiography and tomography) combined with the development of a device allowing for in-situ curing. The extracted information in 2D, 3D and 4D during the process will be analyzed using pattern recognition to assist machine learning algorithms capable of adapting the process with the idea of get it right the first time. This constitute a step forward in the direction of Industry 4.0 in composite materials, which is based on processing knowledge.
HOW TO SUBMIT YOUR EXPRESSION OF INTEREST:
Interested candidates please send your resume and a brief outline of the proposed research project (maximum 2 pages) via email to Dr. Federico Sket (federico.sket@imdea.org) before June 15th 2020.
DESCRIPTION OF THE MSCA IF:
The purpose of the MSCA Individual Fellowships (MSCA IF) is to support the mobility of researchers and help attract promising foreign researchers to work in Europe. The grant typically covers two years' salary, research costs and overheads for the host institution.
The mobility rules require that the researcher has not resided or carried out their main activity (work, studies, etc.) in the country of their host organization (Spain, in the case of IMDEA Materials Institute) for more than 12 months in the 3 years immediately prior to the call deadline (September 9th September 2020 for call 2020). Exceptions to this apply under the career restart and reintegration panels.
The scheme particularly supports the return and (re)integration of European researchers from outside Europe and those who have previously worked here, as well as researchers displaced by conflict outside the EU and Horizon 2020 Associated Countries. It also promotes the career restart of individual researchers who show great potential.
