Description

Research group of Photogrammetry and Remote Sensing at Yildiz Technical University Department of Geomatic Engineering welcomes experienced researchers (PhD holders) to apply jointly to the EU-funded Marie Skłodowska-Curie Postdoctoral Fellowship in 2021

We are looking for post-doc candidates having interest end experience on one/more of the given areas below:

  • Experienced research in Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) and optical remote sensing data analysis
  • Experienced in multi-temporal backscatter, phase and polarimetric SAR analysis.
  • Image fusion of SAR and optical data using software tools such as big data
  • Image processing/computer programming, deep learning, machine learning and scripting using R and/or Phyton
  • With publication record in relevant high quality peer-reviewed scientific journals.

The interest of our team focus on the vegetation monitoring and their temporal variation and its relationship with other environmental datasets such as precipitation, moisture and temperature. The phenological parameters that will be derived from field work will be used to estimate the growing stages of the vegetation. The spatio-temporal distribution of vegetation cover will be detected and parcel based yield analysis will be determined before harvesting period to identify the most proper time for yield estimation. The project is concentrated on the process of Copernicus data which is the European Union's Earth observation program and acquired and distributed by the European Space Agency (ESA). In our studies we widely use the images of Sentinel-1 and Sentinel-2 which are provided free of charge for the users.

We are also interested in the fusion and substitution of SAR data with optical data in case one of them is not available that is the fact when atmospheric conditions affect the acquisition of optical data. In this conditions Generative Adversarial Networks (GANs) might be useful for long term target monitoring.

We have already completed many projects supported (for data gathering) by ESA and DLR and related Earth Sciences (hazards as monitoring landslides, subsidence as well as agricultural sources such as vegetation cover, soil moisture).

We carry out research in our own group at the Department of Geomatic Engineering as well in cooperation with CNR-IREA The Institute for the Electromagnetic Detection of the Environment (Napoli, Italia), with post doc fellowship from Wuhan University

We are also open to discuss new topics related to Environmental Monitoring and Earth Science Apllications using RS/GIS Technologies.

Eligibility criteria

At the deadline for the submission of the proposals (12/10/2021), researchers should:

  • Possess a PhD degree (not more than 8 years ago) in an earth science/natural science / geomatics / image processing/electric and electronic engineering / agricultural engineering discipline related to RS and GIS
  • Not have resided or carried out their main activities in Turkey for more than 12 months in the 3 years immediately prior to the above-mentioned deadline
  • Have a good publication record
