The University of Navarra (UNAV) is a non-profit private university founded in 1952 based in Pamplona, Spain. It confers 56 official degrees and administers more than 90 postgraduate programs (including 20 doctoral programs and 42 master’s programs) through 10 schools, two superior colleges, the IESE Business School and its 5 comprehensive Research Centres: CCUN (Cancer Centre Clínica Universidad de Navarra), BIOMA (Biodiversity and Environment Institute) and DATAI (Institute of Data Science and Artificial Intelligence), ICS (INSTITUTE FOR CULTURE AND SOCIETY and CIN (Centre for Nutrition Research).

Offer description
Our expert in international criminal law is willing to supervise a candidate devoting her-his research to the criminal liability of the Russian Federation’s civil and military authorities for atrocity crimes committed in Ukraine (since 2014, and especially since February 2022). The research shall focus specifically on genocide, the theft of Ukrainian children, which gives merit to the international arrest warrant against V. Putin by the International Criminal Court, crimes against humanity (including ecological crimes), war crimes, and the crime of international aggression. The analysis will be done based on the repressive and deterrent effects of International Humanitarian Law and International Criminal Law and the specific criteria for attributing individual and collective liability and responsibility. A survey of the judicial cases opened against Russian soldiers and authorities by the Ukrainian Judiciary, as well as the multi-level strategy that the Ukrainian Prosecutor's Office is using under the direction of Kostin, will be carried out. The relevance of the trials as a tool for raising social awareness of the atrocities suffered by the Ukrainian people (at national, regional and universal levels), as well as a determinant of a (new) universal ethics shall complete the scope of the analysis.
