Description
Description of the host institution :
The LPHiA, (Laboratoire de Photonique d'Angers, Université d'Angers, FRANCE) develops research on fiber lasers, solitons, nonlinear optical measurements, doped glasses, supercooled media and thin films for photovoltaic applications. The team possesses extensive expertise in femtosecond laser control, including beam shaping and wavelength manipulation across the visible to infrared spectrum. We have successfully developed techniques for precise laser interactions with various materials.

Description of the project :
The opportunities and challenges offered by electronic waste recycling have never been so intense. In light of the pressing need for sustainable development, particularly in recycling precious metals and materials, this project aims to leverage femtosecond laser pulses with spatial beam shaping for micrometric to sub-micrometric ablation with high selectivity for high value material extraction from defective components.
We seek to extend the application to the recycling of components that may not be fully repairable through laser treatments but could be returned to acceptable positions on the production line. This project will focus on optimizing laser parameters and beam shape to improve the precision and efficacy of material removal, promoting a circular economy by reducing reliance on raw material extraction. In particular, we aim to achieve an ablation precision lower than 100 nm in depth with a below 10 μm lateral size, facilitating selective interaction with various materials and layers.
The project will be supervised by Cyril MAUCLAIR, expert in femtosecond laser shaping (in space and in time) in the scope of optimized laser processing of bulk and surfaces.
Keywords : ultrafast laser, recycling, spatial beam shaping, microstructuring
