Position description

  • The Institute of Oceanology of Polish Academy of Sciences is seeking an enthusiastic and highly motivated candidate to fill a Postdoctoral Fellow position in Remote Sensing Laboratory at the Marine PhysicsDepartment. The successful candidate will conduct research to understand the natural variability of inherent and apparent optical properties in the European Section of Arctic Ocean and its potential to represent proxies useful for estimation biogeochemical variables stocks from ocean optics observations. The work may include, but is not necessarily limited to:
  1. Conduct and analyze laboratory and field measurements of inherent and apparent optical properties to determine variabilityof optically significant seawater constituents and other optical and biogeochemical parameters;
  2. Process and calibrate the instrumental and laboratory data and maintain data base;
  3. Develop empirical and semi-analytical relationship between optical properties and biogeochemical parameters;
  4. Investigate if and how additional information gained from measurement of physical and chemical water mass tracers and their interactionscan better constrain the estimation of biogeochemical stocks from ocean optics observations.
  • The successful candidate must prove her/his experience in conducting field observation in the harsh weather condition of Arctic Ocean from different platforms (including small crafts and ice stations). The successful candidate shall also present his/her scientific achievements and capability to conduct independent research work in the field of ocean optics and biogeochemistry based on his/her publications record. The incumbent will become a member of the science teams, working closely with the IOPAN staff involved in scientific exploration of data base already collected in the Arctic Ocean in the framework of Polish Norwegian Research Program. The successful candidate is expected to actively contribute to preparations of scientific publications and research proposals to national and international funding agencies.
  • A 2-year period postdoctoralposition with a salary.

Minimum qualifications: Ph.D. or equivalent degree in Physical Oceanography, Ocean Sciences, or a related discipline.

Application deadline: 13 April 2018.

Application Procedure: Pleasesendyour CV, containing a list of publications, a summary of past research, contactinformation of 2 or 3 referees, and a motivationletter to Prof. Sławomir Sagan.
