About

Post-doctoral fellowship in ethics, health and spirituality

The Faculty of Theology and the Research Institute Religions, Spiritualities, Culture, Society (RSCS) of the Catholic University of Louvain, supported by the Sedes Sapientiæ Foundation, offer a two-year post-doctoral fellowship in theology.

The Sedes Sapientiæ Foundation thus offers the possibility to carry on in-depth research in the fields of health, care and their articulation with ethics and spirituality. The Faculty and the Institute offer young researchers the opportunity to work within an international network, with a wide range of seminars, symposia and scientific activities, in close collaboration with the RESSPIR Network (http://resspir.org/).

Post-doctoral objectives

During the two-year post-doctoral period, the researcher, accompanied by a professor from the Faculty, participates in the activities of the RIRESP (https://uclouvain.be/fr/instituts-recherche/rscs/riresp-a-propos.html) and the RESSPIR Network within RSCS. He/She may collaborate with the IRSS Research Institute (https://uclouvain.be/fr/instituts-recherche/irss), depending on his/her research theme.

His research project will lead to one or more publications, in the form of monographs or articles, according to a decision made in agreement with the referent professor and the president of the doctoral commission in theology. He-She will also take part to the preparation and the animation of a conference in his speciality, during which she will propose a communication.

Amount of the grant and benefits

The monthly amount of the scholarship (variable according to the administrative situation of the scholarship recipient) is around 2 300 € (net) per month. The post-doctoral fellowship is tax-exempt, but is taxable under the social security system for salaried workers. The researcher will of course have access to the UCL and Académie Louvain libraries, the KU Leuven, and the UCL databases.

Eligibility requirements

The candidate must have obtained, for less than 6 years, a Doctorate either in theology or in another discipline, as long as the research topic is articulated with Christianity and the theme of health, care and their articulation with ethics in its link with spirituality. He/She must be able to communicate, at least orally, in French. The applicant (Belgian or non-Belgian) must have resided outside Belgium for more than 12 months during the last three years preceding the start of this scholarship.

Application file

It consists in a curriculum vitae and a cover letter, a copy of the thesis (in electronic version), a list of publications and scientific collaborations, e-mail address and contact details of four professors or researchers who may be called upon to give their opinion on the qualities of the candidate, a presentation of a research project of about ten pages with a schedule, showing also its relevance for one of the research projects of the RSCS Institute.

The application must be submitted before 15 June 2018.

The answer will be sent to candidates on 15 July 2018.
