The Ministry of Science and ICT and National Research Foundation of Korea have opened a call to invite excellent researchers from all over the world to Republic of Korea.

Brain Pool Fellowship program enables researchers to work for maximum 3 years at a Korean institution with the aim of fostering long-term international collaborations. 

• Support the development of postdoctoral researchers at an early stage of their career from any country outside Korea by providing an opportunity to work at a Korean institution.
• Ensure the best postdoctoral researchers from around the world in the fields of science and technology are supported in Korea.

Basically, BP program works this way: a host researcher affiliated in Korean research institution(or university, corporate) invites excellent global researchers from all over the world to his/her laboratory for enhancement of research competence through a joint research. 

If any scientists wish to find a host researcher to conduct a BP project in Korea, you can visit RPIK (www.rpik.or.kr/eng/main/main.do) to find a lab in Korea. 

* BP program supports all fields in Science and Technology.

What is funded

- Personnel costs (Min. 5 Mil. KRW ~ Max. 25 Mil. KRW equivalent to approx. 4,000 ~ 20,000 USD per month)   

- Other direct costs (Housing allowances, airfare, relocation costs, etc)

- Research Materials Costs (Max. 1 Mil. KRW equivalent to approx. 800 USD per annum)

- Indirect Costs (Max. 8 Mil. KRW equivalent to approx. 6,300 USD per annum)

Duration

(Type 1 : Short-term) 6~12 months

(Type 2 : Long-term) Maximum 3 years 

(Type 2 : Flexible research duration) 6~12 months within 3 years.

 * Researchers those who apply for 'Flexible research duration' are able to choose the research period freely from 6 to 12 months within 3 years.

Eligibility

• Host Institution: Government-funded research institution, national/public research institution, university, research institute affiliated with university, corporate, corporate-affiliated research institution and nonprofit research institution
• Host Researcher(Program Applicant): Full-time employees of the respective host institutions who have the rank of at least assistant professor, senior researcher or a chair of a research institute or corporate and corporate-affiliated research institution
  
    ※ Host researcher CANNOT apply for type 1, 2 simultaneously with the same BP fellow
• BP Candidate 
  
  ① Ph.D. holders who is living overseas(outside of Korea) as of the submission date
  
  ② In case of corporate and corporate-affiliated research institution being the host organization, scientist with five-year or more of on-site R&D experience in the      industry overseas(outside of Korea) regardless of his/her possession of a doctoral degree as of the submission date
  
    ※ Candidates who are expected to obtain a degree or temporary overseas residents throughout the application period are not eligible for BP application.
