Workplan: The post-doctoral researcher will build and apply mathematical models and computational algorithms to study multi-species ecosystems, gather and interpret microbial biodiversity data from the literature, and perform algorithmic optimization. The work will combine analysis of ordinary differential equation systems, dynamical systems theory, with biostatistical inference and bioinformatics approaches. Previous experience with the replicator equation, evolutionary game theory or modern coexistence theory is a plus. Experience with biological data analysis, for example bioinformatic analyses of genetic/functional diversity data, metagenomics, will be strongly appreciated.

The ideal candidate will have previous experience with mathematical modeling and differential equations (demonstrated by scientific output), excellent programming skills in Python/Matlab/Mathematica/R and be fluent in scientific communication in English, both reading and writing. Academic background should include a formal PhD degree in Mathematics/Physics/Computer Science/Computational Biology/Bioinformatics/Biomedical Engineering/Evolutionary Biology or related areas with relevance for the above. The ideal candidate will be highly motivated and independent, an excellent problem-solver, and work flexibly and productively as part of a team. He/she should show enthusiasm and curiosity to work at the interface between mathematics and biology, be clear and efficient in reporting results and meeting objectives, and display strong creative and critical thinking.

Duration: The research fellowship(s) will have the duration of 24 months. It’s expected to begin in June 1, 2023, and may be eventually renewed up to the maximum of 3 months.
