Offer Description
We seek a Doctoral Candidate (PhD student) for the study of multi-component soft materials, using supramolecular chemistry, photochemistry or fluorescence microscopy (details below). The Doctoral Candidate (DC) will be hired within the Doctoral Network MultiSMART, composed of 6 Universities, 1 Research Institute and 3 Private Sector partners (from France, Spain, Netherlands, Germany, United Kingdom) who will hire 11 PhD students in total. The DC will be enrolled in the PhD program of the Université de Bordeaux, and perform research at the “Institut des Sciences Moléculaires” in the group NEO. They will be supervised by Pr. André Del Guerzo. Mobility as well as excellent scientific and soft-skill qualifications of the DC will be promoted throughout the network with (i) common research goals, (ii) two temporary 3-months stays at network partners (secondments), one being in the private sector, (iii) regular international schools and workshops. The Doctoral Network is financed by the European Union under the framework of the program HORIZON Europe, Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions. The DC will be hired for 36 months under contract by the Université de Bordeaux with a monthly gross salary of approximatively 3200 € (including mobility allowance) or approximatively 3600 € (including additionally family allowance). The family allowance depends on the marital status of the DC.
In Bordeaux, we are looking for 1 candidate, without gender or nationality discrimination but with mobility requirement, that can have different skill-sets and interests, such as either (1) microscopy, optics, fluorescence, photophysics, data/image analyses, materials' characterisation, or (2) supramolecular chemistry, photochemistry, fluorescence, organic nanomaterials. Goals of the PhD project (1) include the exploration of complex soft materials and biomaterials, to determine their 3D-structures and dynamic behavior, as well as the diffusion properties of molecules embedded therein. The study will involve state-of-the-art microscopy techniques, including application of super-resolution fluorescence microscopy, single molecule or particle diffusion studies and their correlations with specific properties of the materials. Goals of the PhD project (2) will be related to the characterisation of (bio)materials, including the study of supramolecular interactions, original fluorescent tagging of materials for microscopy studies, and innovative nano-photochemical approaches. Applications of the materials will be studied in collaboration with the network partners on skin permeation, cosmetics, drug delivery and spinal cord regeneration. (see also requirements/skills below)
To apply, please send exclusively by e-mail: a letter of motivation, diplomas with grades and an extended CV (including list of publications, list of skills, and contact information of at least 2 references). All the documents have to be submitted in 1 e-mail in 1 PDF file, file name = "Last_name.pdf", 10 MB max. Letters of recommendation can be included, or sent separately by the reference. e-mail address: multismart@u-bordeaux.fr
