Offer Description
Position: postdoctoral researcher.
The postdoctoral contract is part of a project designed to generate of scientific knowledge to contribute towards the Ecological Transition of UE Green Deal.
The main objective of this project is to develop raw materials in powder form for sustainable Additive Manufacturing (AM) processes with the aim of expanding the catalog of current compositions, increasing the versatility of the available raw materials, and controlling the microstructure to achieve final components with optimal and reproducible properties. The main work of this position will include the use and development of thermodynamic and microstructural multiscale, multiphysics modelling tools to aid the design of customized powder particle systems for AM and capable of predicting the structure-property- process parameters relations during AM
Once the powders are designed, they will be produced by other partners in this project and validated by the production of components by Additive Manufacturing processes. Characterization and property evaluation of final components produced by AM will be performed in order to establish definitively the relationship between initial powder characteristics, processing and properties.
The candidate will acquire knowledge in the field of multiscale, multiphysics materials modelling as well as hands-on experience with state-of-the-art materials additive manufacturing techniques (composite extrusion modelling, binder jetting, selective laser melting) and characterization methods (e.g. electron microscopy, X-ray diffraction, powder characterizing, sample preparation, and mechanical testing).
The researcher will gain expertise in several areas of high employability and experience in both fundamental and applied research in materials and metallurgy, opening perspectives in both academia and industry.
