Offer Description
We are looking for an established researcher to support the Principal Investigator in UB of the Horizon Europe project DEMOCRAT, managing the project, conducting research and innovation in the field of Education for Democracy (EfD).
To reinforce the resilience and sustainability of democracy, DEMOCRAT aims, through a participatory approach, to elaborate curricula for EfD based on a framework of responsible democratic competences (RDCs), to test them in open, local, innovative learning projects and to develop a toolbox to support the development of transformative EfD practices in the EU and beyond. DEMOCRAT’s ambitious research and innovation programme will provide insights into the points of comparison and contrast in EfD in the EU-member states, and will develop an innovative curriculum framework linking RDCs with digitalisation and sustainability. DEMOCRAT will test and analyse pedagogical practices and material considering its effectiveness for acquiring democratic competences and European identity. It will garner insights into the factors influencing the impact of EfD on public participation through the analysis of European data-sets, with a particular focus on the relation between socio-economic and educational inequalities and political and social participation.
Job description:
The established researcher will coordinate the project in administration, innovation, communication and research activities within the DEMOCRAT consortium.
The researcher will support the IP and the rest of the team being responsible for the management of the project and the implementation of the field work in Catalonia and Spain consisting the development of an EfD vision & competence framework, the design, testing and evaluation of a curriculum of responsible democratic citizenship in close cooperation with the education community, the scaling up Education for Democracy strategy, as well as dissemination and exploitation of the project findings.
We seek highly motivated candidates to:
• work in an international, innovative and multi-stakeholder project
• manage a multidisciplinary European project consortium
• develop transdisciplinary work, co-producing new curricula of EfD with different types of stakeholders and testing them in the field
• develop state of art research and innovation processes to create framework for democratic education
• communicate and amplify scientific, policy and innovation in the field of EfD generated to deliver change locally and internationally.
Key responsibilities
• Implement tools and strategies for efficient project management and communication for the whole project
• Contribute substantially to the development of a vision for Education for Democracy and competence framework
• Facilitate the set-up of local living labs with multiple stakeholders, which will include practitioners and policy makers to identify leverage points to implement and reinforce democratic education and pathways for transformative change. Support other partners in their living lab activities
• Participate in the analysis of education inequalities and political participation
• Support other DEMOCRAT partners in implementing innovations around democratic education
• Coordinate the design and implementation of innovative local pilot projects for testing EfD curricula
• Involve stakeholders in the project development
• Engage in the scaling up innovative and transformative EfD
• Support the organisation of project meetings and conferences across the project
• Travel to and participate in meetings and project activities as required
• Integrate learnings and findings across the project to develop publications, guidebooks, and a decision support tool for good governance of sustainable food sharing
• Engage in the international dissemination of the results from research to stakeholders in the appropriate form (e.g. presentations, publications, blogs, newspaper articles etc.)
• Participate actively in the activities of the UB research group
Gross salary per year*
45.600,00€ (distributed in 12 payments)

Expertise/Competence/Skills
1. Expertise in sociology of education
2. Proven ability to organise and facilitate multi-stakeholder activities and develop impactful research and innovation processes
3. Proven ability to produce high quality publications
4. Evidence of ability to manage international transdisciplinary projects and/or research activities or policy processes
5. Proven effective interpersonal and communication skills including written and oral presentation skills
6. Written and oral command of English, Spanish and German is required, as well as capacity to understand oral and written communications in Catalan
Knowledge
7. Knowledge of theoretical, policy and methodological literatures relevant for education, democracy and competence development
8. Knowledge of participatory research, social innovation and/or co-production methodologies and techniques

9. A degree in social sciences or related subject

Additional Information
Eligibility criteria
• CV (maximum 50 points)
• Ph.D. of social sciences or related subjects (25 points), Ph.D. in other subject (10 points)
• Experience in research and EU projects (maximum 25 points). P. ex.: >3 years (5 points); 3-6 years (10 points); 6-9 years (15 points); 9-12 years (20 points); <15 years (25 points)
Duration of the contract of employment: 12 months with a possibility of extension.
The candidate proposed for hiring must accept the job offer within5 working daysfrom the date of notification of the selection.
