Offer Description
We invite applications for a post-doctoral Research Fellowship in second language (L2) phonology at the Center for Linguistics Research (CLUNL) at NOVA University Lisbon Portugal. The post is available for 10 months and potentially renewable. The preferred start date is March 1 2023, or shortly thereafter. The deadline for applications is 14th March, 2023.
The successful applicant will join an international research project (ProPerL2: Production and Perception in L2 speech learning) that investigates (1) the impact of perception and production training in L2 speech learning and (2) the role of cognitive factors. The project is funded by the Portuguese Foundation for Science and Technology (FCT) and led by Professor Susana Correia (NOVA University), in collaboration with Professor Anabela Rato (University of Toronto) and Professor Patrick Rebuschat (Lancaster University).

Job description:
The successful applicant will perform a range of tasks such as the following:
· Setting up experiments on speech perception and production in widely-used platforms (e.g., Gorilla);
· Overseeing the successful conclusion of data collection;
· Processing audio files using tools such as Praat and Audacity;
· Analysing and interpreting experimental speech data (e.g., linear-mixed effects modeling using R).

PhD in Linguistics. Preference will be given to candidates with a research background in second language acquisition and experimental phonology.
Essential skills:
§ Strong background in experimental design (in setting up and running speech perception and production experiments in Gorilla or similar online platforms, in particular)
§ Experience in collecting data online
§ Ability to use audio-recording equipment and tools for processing audio files
§ Knowledge of data analysis, including linear-mixed effects modeling
§ Excellent publication and conference presentation record
§ Functional competence in written and spoken English (if non-native)
Desirable skills:
§ Experience in conducting systematic reviews and meta-analyses
§ Experience in writing ethics protocols and preregistration forms
§ Experience in coordinating small research teams

The current salary for post-doctoral Research Fellows is 1,741€ per month.
To be eligible for his position (Art. 7, Reg. n.º 950/2019, FCT Regulations), applicants need to fulfil the following criteria:
1. Completion of a doctorate in the three years prior to the submission of the application to this position;
2. Completion of a doctorate in an institution that is different from the host institution of this project (NOVA University Lisbon);
3. Applicants cannot exceed three years of post-doctoral experience in the same type category (FCT post-doctoral Research Fellowship), including the contractual period of this project.
4. Applicants cannot have been employed as a post-doctoral Research Fellow at FCSH beforehand.

The short presentation should consist of two parts. In the first part, the candidate should summarize one of their recent empirical studies and reflect on their scientific relevance and impact. In the second part, the candidate should focus on the topic of online data collection. The section should include a reflection on advantages and disadvantages of collecting data remotely (via the internet). The presentation will take place online and should last up to 10 minutes. Evaluation criteria include clarity of presentation, capacity to synthesize and reflect on research findings and methodologies, and relevance of the presentation to the ProPerL2 project.
