About your role
We are looking for a senior postdoctoral researcher to be working within the UIC School of Architecture, research group on Sustainable Urban Living (Sul), on a Horizon Europe Project titled UP2030, dealing with urban sustainability and resilience. UP2030 is looking to enable sustainable transformations in 10 European cities and UIC Barcelona is aiming at study the cities planning needs for updating planning schemes and capacities in a first stage of the project, and build a capacity building and training program in a second stage.
The senior researcher is expected to lead project tasks, support the team at UIC in new project tenders preparation and be able to teach at the international MSc program in City resilience.
Key tasks
The senior researcher will conduct research and coordination tasks in collaboration with other WP leaders of UP2030, respect to:
- Provide a state of the art of the barriers and city needs for upgrading building codes, licences, governance aspects of the green transformation, reviewing the scientific literature and also interviewing tech. partners.
- Create a Benchmarking system able to gather urban sustainability and resilience indicators, developing indicators within a framework.
- Create a training for city practitioners on the above-mentioned topic, in collaboration with other WPs.
- Support the team in the co-writing of research proposals on urban sustainability and resilience
- Lead and co-write deliverables for the UP2030 project, and take part in multi-co-authored papers.
- Teach at the int. MSc in city resilience design and management about urban sustainability
- Contribute to the dissemination and outreach activities of the group, angagin cities practitioners.

Requirements

- PhD or equivalent
- PhD degree in Planning or Architecture and at least 5 years of working or research career experience after the PhD is required.
- Previous work and active involvement in empirical research or consulting activities with cities on green plans, sustainability projects in contact with cities’ practitioners is required
- Experience in leading workshops, organizing multi-stakeholders events and be able to synthetize and writing high quality standard synthesis reports is required
- Previous experience in European Projects in urban sustainability (leading tasks or WP) is required.
- Ability to design and write competitive research proposals is preferred.
- Ability to teach at master level is preferred
- Ability to work independently while also supervising and coordinating small team of juniors is preferred

- Salary: 34,000 to 38,000€/year depending on the candidate experience

- Having being leading WPs of European projects on urban sustainability (20%)

The UIC Barcelona selection process, following that which is outlined in the European OTM-R, will be carried out in two phases: a first pre-selection phase and a second interview phase.
The PI of the project will be tasked with carrying out both phases, both the initial evaluation and the subsequent interview. He might partner with other experts inside and outside of UIC Barcelona for completing the two phases of the selection process.
The following criteria will be assessed in the initial phase:
- Research and work experience with cities
- Teaching and supervising potential
- Interdisciplinarity of the candidate
In the second phase of interviews, the following will be considered:
- Discussion of the candidate’s CV relevant to the position
- Oral communication skills
- Interpersonal skills
