RESEARCH FELLOWSHIP AWARD NOTICE

A call for tenders is now open for the allocation of 1 (one) Master/Bachelor Research Scholarship under the project Mobilizador "cLabel+: Innovative foods "clean label" natural, nutritious and consumer-oriented", with reference POCI-01-0247-FEDER-046080, co-financed by the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) through the Competitiveness and Internationalisation Operational Programme (POCI) under the following conditions:

1. Scientific Area: Chemistry/Food Chemistry/Biochemistry/Biotechnology or related areas.

2. Admission requirements: Candidates with a Master/Bachelor degree preferably with a final average degree equal to or greater than 14 (fourteen) values and preferably with a final average of master's degree equal to or greater than 16 (sixteen) values or average master's degree preferably of 15 (fifteen) values (applicants with a Bachelor degree do not need a master degree), enrolled in a doctoral program (for applicants with a Bachelor degree the corresponding registration must be in master program) in the areas of Chemistry, Food Chemistry, Biotechnology, Biochemistry or related areas or enrolled in non-conferring courses of academic degree integrated in the educational project of the University of Aveiro and / or developed in association or cooperation with one or more research units.

Preference will be given to candidates with a master degree and will only be hired candidates with a bachelor degree if candidates with a master degree do not apply, or if they apply, they do are not from the demanded training area and/or do not have the experience required in the call.

Preference will be given to candidates with experience working in high hydrostatic pressure technology and in the operationalization of high pressure equipment, and knowledge in food analysis techniques is also valued.

If the diploma was issued by a foreign higher education institution, it must be recognized by a Portuguese higher education institution, under the provisions of article 25 of Legislative Decree No. 66/2018, of August 16, which approves the legal regime for the recognition of university degrees and higher education diplomas, issued by foreign higher education institutions, and paragraph e) of paragraph 2 of article 4 of Legislative Decree no. 60/2018, of August 3, and all the formalities established therein must be completed on the date of the contracting act.

4. Work plan: The work plan aims to value nutritional food products through their macronutrients to achieve a clean label positioning of final products to be developed. Proteins exhibit technological and functional properties that can be modified through differentiating physical processes such as high pressure technology (HPP) giving them texture and properties (e.g., solubility and water retention capacity) that influence their rheological and sensory characteristics. Thus, it will be objective to perform tasks related to texturization by high hydrostatic pressure of meat products, namely ham, bacon and turkey breast (from Company Primor), as well as the modulation by HPP of the texture of vegetable proteins that are used as meat analogues. The work plan also includes scientific and technical dissemination related to the tasks developed.

5. Applicable legislation and regulations: Status of Scientific Researchers, as amended by Decree-Law No. 123/2019, of August 28; Regulations for Scientific Research Fellowships of the University of Aveiro, Regulation n.º 292/2020, published in Diário da República n.º 61, 2nd series, of March 26 (https://dre.pt/application/file / a / 130722170); Decree-Law No. 66/2018 of August 16 (Legal regime for the recognition of university degrees and higher education diplomas issued by foreign higher education institutions).

6. Place of work: The work will be developed in the Department of Chemistry of the University of Aveiro, in the Research Unit LAQV-REQUIMTE, under the scientific coordination of Dr. Jorge Saraiva.

7. Duration of the scholarship(s): The scholarship begins on March 1, 2023 and may have a maximum duration of 4 (four) months, without renewal, if the Project in which it is included is extended until the end of June 2023. If the Project is not extended, ending in May 2023, the scholarship will have a maximum duration of 03 (three) months If for some reason the scholarship cannot be started on March 1, 2023, it will only last the number of months from the date of its start until the end of the Project by which it is funded ("cLabel+:  Innovative natural, nutritious and consumer-oriented clean label foods, with reference POCI-01-0247-FEDER-046080), but will have to have a minimum duration of 03 (three) months.

9. Selection methods: Applications will be evaluated taking into account the merits of the candidate and his/her curriculum, and there may be an appeal by the jury to an interview where the communication skills and knowledge acquired with the work already done will be evaluated, with their assessment: i) Academic qualifications will have the value of: final average degree [≤14/15-16/≥17] which is equivalent to [05/10/20] points; final master's average [≤14/15-16/≥17] which is equivalent to [05/10/20] points; final integrated master's average [≤14/15-16/≥17] equivalent to [10/20/40] points and ii) Proven experience in recent research activities in the scientific field of the application, namely work experience in high hydrostatic pressure technology and in the operationalization of high pressure equipment and in food analysis techniques equivalent to [40] points. If the jury considers it necessary to resort to an interview, the 3 best ranked in the sum of criteria i) and ii) will be selected for the interview, and the interview will have a weight of [20] points for the final evaluation of the candidates interviewed.
