Offer Description

A call for bids for a research grant (BIPD - Doctor) is open within the scope of the R&D institution, the R&D institution Research Center on Technologies – Autonoma TechLab of the Universidade Autónoma de Lisboa, with the reference BIPD _2023_1_2022.03897.PTDC, with the financial support of the Foundation for Science and Technology (FCT) and the Ministry of Science, Technology and Higher Education (MCTES), through national funds (PIDDAC), under the following conditions:

Scientific Area: Electrical Engineering, Electronic Engineering, Information Engineering

Mandatory admission requirements: PhD in Electronics & Communication/Telecommunications Engineering/ICT/ (obtained in the last three years, at the date of application).

Eligibility of candidates: candidates must meet the eligibility conditions set out in article 9 of the FCT IP Research Grant Regulation (2019).

Preferred factors:

- Basic knowledge of AI and Machine Learning for the developed framework;

-Experience in preparation of research funding proposals;

- Experience in tasks and management work associated with the Project and research program;

- Fluency in writing in English language;

- Excellent communication skills.

Work plan: Conduct a specific research program and under the guidance of the Principal Investigator in the development of a new communication system in virtualization and slicing in UAV enabled networks; research challenging issues related to communication protocols, signal processing algorithms and network architectures for UAV-assisted wireless networks; develop new techniques/algorithms to address some of the critical issues identified; support research under the guidance of the Principal Investigator and research group in the design and development of the UAV research program for 5G.

Objectives to be achieved: The main objective and goals to be achieved: to develop advanced research skills and competencies in virtualization and slicing in the concept of UAV-enabled networks, applying in AI and machine development; algorithm design for virtualization and slicing in UAV-enabled networks; end-to-end service provisioning scheme in UAV-assisted virtualized networks; publication in high-quality peer-reviewed academic journals.

Benefits

Monthly maintenance allowance amount: The fellowship amount corresponds to 1686,00€ per month, according to the fellowships amounts table directly attributed by the FCT, I.P. in the country (https://former.fct.pt/apoios/bolsas/docs/Tabela_de_Valores_SMM_2022.pdf) and will be paid by bank transfer, monthly, by the contracting entity.

Selection process

Criteria and selection procedure: Three candidates who meet the admission requirements and according to the preference criteria will be considered for interview. Candidates will be evaluated according to the following considerations: curriculum evaluation (70%), interview (20%) and motivation letter (10%). Only candidates with a weighted average of 15 or higher will be admitted.

Composition of the Selection Jury: President: Prof. Dushantha Nalin K. Jayakody; Effective vowels: Prof. Gonçalo Valadão; Prof. Mário Marques da Silva. Substitute Member: Prof. Rui Dinis.

Disclosure/announcement of results: the threecandidates admitted for interview are invited by email. The announcement and the final results of the evaluation will be published through a list sorted by final score, in a public place on the websites of Autonoma TechLab (https://techlab.autonoma.pt) and  Universidade Autónoma de Lisboa (https://www.autonoma.pt), and the approved candidate will be notified by email. All candidates will be notified of the decision by email.

Failure to send any of the documents required in the application constitutes grounds for exclusion (according to Art. 10º of the Regalemento n.º 950/2019 de Bolsas de Investigação da FCT).

Additional comments

Duration of fellowship(s): Duration of 8,5 months, starting in 01st March 2023. A selection reserve list will be created, which can be used for a maximum of 4 months.

Final report: The grant holder must submit, until 60 working days after the end of the grant, a final report of the activities, in digital format.  This report should describe, in detail, all the activities carried out, the time spent on them, the objectives achieved and the respective URL addresses (if applicable).
