OFFER DESCRIPTION
There is an open competition for the attribution of one (1) Research Grant, under the Regulamento de Bolsas de Investigação da FCT (RBI) and the Estatuto do Bolseiro de Investigação (EBI), within the scope of the Project in Co-promotion R&D Companies entitled "Q-AD4PurePort - Nova Range of Port Wines, based on an innovative method of selection of wine spirit”, POCI-01-0247-FEDER-039956, funded by the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) through the Competitiveness and Internationalization Operational Program (POCI).
1. Scientific Area: Biochemistry / Biotechnology / Chemistry, Pharmaceutical Sciences or related areas.
2. Admission requirements: Hold a Master's degree in Biochemistry, Biotechnology, Chemistry, Food Engineering, Pharmaceutical Sciences or similar areas and be a student enrolled or enrolling in a non-degree advanced research course in the area in which this work plan is inserted. Also, must have oral and written skills of Portuguese and English and have good interpersonal skills, communication skills, team spirit and proactive action.
If the qualification has been conferred by a foreign higher education institution, it will have to be recognized by a Portuguese higher education institution, in accordance with the provisions of article 25 of Decree-Law n.º 66/2018, of August 16, the legal regime for the recognition of academic degrees and diplomas of Higher Education, presented by foreign higher education institutions, and paragraph e) of paragraph 2 of article 4 of Decree-Law nº. 60/2018, of August 03, and any formalities established therein must be fulfilled by the date of the contracting act.
There are also the following preferential requirements to be mentioned:
− Weighted average of bachelor's and master's degrees equal to or greater than 14.
− Advanced knowledge in statistical data processing
− Experience and knowledge of oenology, aroma chemistry, and chromatographic techniques will be valued
3. Eligibility criteria: Applicants who comply with the provisions of paragraph a) of paragraph 1 of article 2 of the Research Fellowship Statute, as amended by Decree-Law no. 123/2019, of 28 August, and also the provisions of article 9 of the Regulation for Scientific Research Grants of the University of Aveiro.
4. Work plan: The work plan is part of the objectives and tasks of the Q-AD4PurePort project, in particular, the characterization of the volatile profile of grape spirits and Port wines, through the development of statistical tools for merging information domains and creating predictive models. The work plan also includes participation in management and dissemination activities (preparation of activity reports and preparation of scientific articles and other publications and participation in events).
5. Applicable legislation and regulations: Statute of Scientific Research Fellows, as amended by Decree-Law no. 123/2019, of August 28; Regulation of Scientific Research Grants of the University of Aveiro, Regulation no. 292/2020, published in Diário da República no. 61, 2nd Series, of March 26; Decree-Law no. 66/2018, of 16 August (Legal regime for the recognition of academic degrees and higher education diplomas awarded by foreign higher education institutions).
6. Workplace: The work will be carried out at the Chemistry Department of the University of Aveiro (LAQV-REQUIMTE), under the scientific guidance of Professor Sílvia M. Rocha.
7. Duration of the grant: The grant will last for 3 months, starting in Febuary 2023, and may be renewed up to the deadline the project.
8. Grant financial elements: Grant holders receive a monthly maintenance allowance in accordance with the table in Annex I of the RBI. The amount of the grant corresponds, at the moment, to €1,144.64, according to the table of monthly maintenance allowance amounts set out in Annex I of Regulation no. 950/2019, subject to any updates that may be applicable, under the terms of no. 2 of article 18 of Regulation no. 950/2019, of November 29, published in Diário da República, no. 241, Series II, of December 16th (Research Grants Regulation of FCT, I.P.). Payments due to the grantee are made by bank transfer to the account identified by the grantee.
9. Method of selection: Applications will be evaluated taking into account the merit of the candidate and his/her CV, and the jury may also resort to an interview where the communication skills and knowledge acquired from work already carried out will be evaluated, with the respective valuation:
i) Basic academic qualification (40%) and ii) Proven experience in recent research activities within the scientific area of the application (60%). If the jury considers it necessary to resort to an interview, the 3 best classified in the sum of criteria i) and ii) will be selected for the interview, and the interview will have a weight of 30% for the final evaluation of the candidates interviewed.

11. Application deadline and form of submission of applications: The application is open from January 17 to 27 of the current year, with only applications within the established deadline being accepted. Applications must be formalized, obligatorily by email, by sending an application letter accompanied by the following documents:
- Letter of motivation and introduction (including email address);
- Curriculum vitae (with identification according to the Identity Card/Citizen Card);
- Copy(s) of qualification(s) certificate(s) (including Bachelor's and Master's average marks);
- Document proving other degrees, when applicable;
- Copy of relevant publications within the scope of the functions to be performed;
- Other documents that support the information on the candidates' CVs.
Applications must be sent by email to the address smrocha@ua.pt (include in the “Subject” field: Scholarship Q-AD4PurePort-ref: POCI-01-0247-FEDER-039956). Candidates must make sure that they receive an email reply to their application, confirming receipt of the same.
12. Form of publication/notification of results: The results of the evaluation are published within a maximum period of 60 working days from the deadline for submitting applications, by notifying the candidates. Candidates are informed, at a prior hearing, under the terms enshrined in the Code of Administrative Procedure, of the draft decision of the final decision, and may, within 10 working days of this notification, comment on this decision. The final results may be appealed to the Rector, to be submitted within 10 working days of the respective notification.
