Earthquake Research Institute is developing advanced observation equipment and data analysis techniques in the field of seafloor seismic observation and promoting large-scale international observation research.

[Work content and job description]
This position seeks individual who will carry out Broadband ocean bottom observation at the seismo-geodetic band to reveal various observation targets, such as seismicity, crustal activity and structure in the marine area. The candidate is expected to be motivated to develop innovative marine observation instruments for new discoveries and to conduct research and development on the advancement of observation techniques and data analysis methods.
Additionally, the candidate is expected to contribute to the education and mentorship of the next generation of researchers through active engagement with research and graduate-level teaching.

Annual salary:5 million yen
Wages description:Determined based on academic background, work experience, etc., with a salary increase system.
Reference: Monthly salary of approximately 340,000 yen for those with a doctoral degree

Contract period description:In accordance with internal regulations regarding the tenure of faculty members, a five-year term limit is applied to faculty members over 55 years of age at the start of the following academic year. Reappointment is possible only once with the approval of the institute’s faculty council (however, it cannot exceed the retirement date stipulated in The University of Tokyo’s regulations). In addition, a comprehensive evaluation will be conducted by faculty council members approximately 10 years after the assistant professor is hired.
