The Institute of Human Paleoecology and Social Evolution (IPHES), invites applications for a 3-year (2+1) post-doctoral position in Network Analysis and Modelling within the scope of the project PALEODEM, Late Glacial and Postglacial Population History and Cultural Transmission in Iberia (c.15,000-8000 cal BP) – ERC Consolidator Grant Grant 2015 Ref. 683018 (PI: Javier Fernández-López de Pablo).
The PALEODEM research project aims to investigate the interplay between human demography and cultural transmission processes from the Late Magdalenian to the Late Mesolithic in the Iberian Peninsula, using a novel multi-scale methodological approach.
The researcher will analyse spatio-temporal networks and perform computational experiments to study on and of network dynamics. To this end, the successful candidate will join a multidisciplinary research team, in close collaboration with two senior network scientists and a PhD student.

Benefits
The gross salary is 31,000€/year, according to the PhD salary scales of the Spanish Research system (equivalent to MINECO ‘Ramon y Cajal’ fellowships). Vacation days, parental leave and medical coverage are included according to the Spanish employment regulation and Social Security system.
Selection process
The selection process will have two steps. First, the selection committee will evaluate the applications to produce a short list. The second step will involve personal or remote interviews with the pre-selected candidates.

Skills/Qualifications
- PhD thesis on Network Science, preferably in a Physics or Computer Science program.
- Python and/or R programming languages.
- Skills on computational modelling, statistical analysis and Geographic Information Systems.
- Fluency in English, basic knowledge in Spanish and/or Catalan desirable
Specific Requirements
- Experience in the application of network methods to empirical case studies.
- Experience on analysis of spatial and temporal networks appreciated.
- Knowledge of Prehistoric Archaeology desirable.
- High engagement and willingness to work in an interdisciplinary team.
