Offer Description
The University of Primorska is seeking a dynamic and motivated PhD candidate to work on development and evaluation of User-Centric Re-configurable Timber Building Systems. The researcher will be employed as a doctoral candidate in the Ph.D. study program: Renewable Materials for Healthy Built Environments.
The employment contract will be concluded for full-time employment, 40 hours per week (100%), for a fixed term of three years, with a 4-month probationary period, the expected start date is October 1, 2025.
Description of work and tasks:
- This PhD research aims to develop user-centric structural systems using design methodologies that will enable timber buildings to be reconfigured in response to e.g., change of function or layout that may be required according to users’ needs through the building lifecycle. The candidate will be responsible for:
- Conducting literature reviews to understand existing methodologies and challenges related to the subject.
- Developing novel design solutions for structural components that will enable reconfiguration and reuse of components.
- Performing advanced experimental and analytical analyses on the developed structural systems.
- Disseminating research findings through publications in peer-reviewed journals and presentations at conferences.

Essential requirements/skills
- Master's degree in one of these areas: Timber Engineering, Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, Architectural Engineering, or closely related fields.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English,
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a multidisciplinary international research environment,
- Ability to formulate and communicate new research ideas (e.g., research proposal preparation).
