Offer Description
A call is open for the allocation of 1 (one) research fellowship for MSc, PhD student (BI) (Ref.: BI-1-CISE), within the Research Project SmartEcoLighting: Promoting the protection and preservation of biodiversity by reducing light pollution (PD24-00015), supported by the Promove Programme of the ‘la Caixa’ Foundation, in collaboration with BPI and the Foundation for Science and Technology, taking place at the research unit CISE – Electromechatronic Systems Research Centre (https://cise.ubi.pt/), of the University of Beira Interior, under the following conditions:

Objectives:
The research activities to carry out involve the development and implementation of smart artificial lighting solutions for outdoor environments, with benefits for biodiversity.
Work plan:
The implementation of the work plan involves the following tasks:
- Characterise, from the electrical and photometric points of view, the lighting systems in use at the two sites that will be considered for demonstration purposes, through on-site measurements;
- Assist the project team in the development and implementation of the proposed intelligent lighting systems;
- Characterise, from thee electrical and photometric points of view, the lighting systems developed in the framework of the project, through on-site measurements.
- Compare and provide a critical evaluation of the obtained results.

Work location:
The work will be developed at CISE – Electromechatronic Systems Research Centre, Department of Electromechanical Engineering, University of Beira Interior, under the scientific supervision of Professor Doctor António João Marques Cardoso (cise@ubi.pt).
Fellowship duration and conditions :
The fellowship is opened for 12 months, and is foreseen to start on March 2025. The activity is in regime of exclusive dedication in accordance with the RBIUBI. The fellowship may be renewed for periods of 12 months, up to a maximum of 30 months, or by the end of the project (31st August 2027).

Documents for application:
The candidates should present:
- Motivation letter;
- Detailed Curriculum Vitae;
- Certificate of completion of the previous degree, specifying the final classification and, if possible, the marks obtained in all the subjects taken, or, alternatively, a declaration of honour from the candidate that he or she has completed the degree by the application deadline;
- Other documents considered relevant that attest to the candidate's competence in relevant areas;
Declaration of honour from the candidate stating that he/she meets the conditions for being awarded the fellowship according to Article 6 of the RBIUBI.
With regards to the aforementioned admissibility requirements, the following should be noted:
- In the case of academic degrees awarded by foreign higher education institutions, and in order to guarantee the application of the principle of equal treatment to candidates who hold foreign and national academic degrees, it is mandatory to recognise these degrees and convert the respective final classification to the Portuguese classification scale.
- The recognition of foreign academic degrees and diplomas, as well as the conversion of the final classification to the Portuguese classification scale, can be requested at any public higher education institution, or at the Directorate-General for Higher Education (DGES, only in the case of automatic recognition). In this regard, it is suggested to consult the DGES portal at the following address: http://www.dges.gov.pt.
- Candidates will only be considered eligible if they have completed a course leading to a BSc degree by the application deadline. If they do not yet have their degree certificate, a declaration of honour from the candidates stating that they have completed the qualifications required for the call, by the application deadline, will be accepted. The award of the fellowship is conditioned to the presentation, at the contractualisation stage, of proof of academic qualifications.

Publication/notification of results:
The final results of the evaluation process will be published in a sorted list, by the final classification obtained, and posted in a visible and public place of the Faculty of Engineering of the University of Beira Interior. The candidate(s) will be notified of the decision by e-mail.

The proof of registration in the PhD degree is required for the fellowship contractualization.
Additional Information
A monthly maintenance allowance will be granted in accordance with the Annex I of the RBIUBI, with the amount of € 1 259,64, according to the updated values that can be consulted at https://www.fct.pt/apoios/bolsas. The fellowship holder will have a personal accident insurance and can choose to be covered by the voluntary social insurance. These values will be added to the amount of monthly maintenance allowance.
- Hold a MSc degree in Electrical Engineering or related scientific areas;
- To be enrolled or to comply with the requirements to enrol in a cycle of studies leading to the PhD degree in Electrical and Computer Engineering;
- Strong motivation and experience in the study and development of scientific work framed in the field of artificial lighting systems or related areas.
The proof of registration in the PhD degree is required for the fellowship contractualization.
Applications considered admissible will be scored on a scale of 0 to 20 in each of the following assessment criteria:
- Criterion A - Academic training, with a weighting of 35%;
- Criterion B - Suitability of the applicant profile, with a weighting of 50%;
- Criterion C - Face-to-face interview, with a weighting of 15%.
For the purposes of deciding on the award of fellowships, candidates will be ranked according to the weighted average of the classification obtained in each of the three criteria, translated into the following formula:
Final Classification = (35% x A) + (50% x B) + (15% x C)
For tie-breaking purposes, candidates will be ranked on the basis of the marks awarded for each of the assessment criteria in the following order of precedence: criterion B, criterion A and criterion C.
Candidates will be selected according to their position in the overall final ranking. If none of the candidates fulfils the evaluation criteria, the call will be closed without any candidates being selected.

Complaint and Appeal Procedures: After communication of the provisional lists of the results in the different phases of the selection process (Admission and Exclusion, Curricular Evaluation and Interview), the candidates have 10 working days to pronounce their disagreement, under the terms of article 121 and the Código do Procedimento Administrativo. If any allegations are presented, the final decision will be issued after the analysis of the statements presented during the prior hearing of interested parties. After the statutory deadline of 10 working days, the proposal for the final classification and ranking of the candidates becomes definitive.
