Offer Description

IdiPAZ seeks pre-doctoral researcher to carry out a pre-doctoral contract for the training of research staff, funded by the MICINN within the framework of the State Plan for Scientific, Technical and Innovation Research 2021-2023. he contract is associated with the research project ‘Genomic analysis of skeletal dysplasias (PID2023-150101OB-I00) directed by Dr Karen Heath, head of the Skeletal Dysplasias Laboratory at the Institute of Medical and Molecular Genetics (INGEMM), IdiPAZ, La Paz University Hospital, Madrid.

The IdiPAZ Health Research Institute is the result of a partnership between the Hospital Universitario La Paz, the Universidad Autónoma de Madrid, the Healthcare Advisory Council of the Community of Madrid and the Foundation for Biomedical Research of Hospital Universitario La Paz, which will be the managing body of the Institute. This strategic alliance has made it possible to tackle research projects through joint multidisciplinary teams belonging to these institutions, making the most of the human and material resources available to these entities for research and promoting research fundraising.

In 2021, the scientific production of IdiPAZ included more than 1,600 publications (articles, editorials, letters, reviews, etc), 43% of the publications being our own documents. Original research and review articles by IdiPAZ researchers exceeded 1,200, more than 45% in the first quartile and more than 16% were published in journals of the first decile. Researchers from our institute have shown their participation in national and international scientific networks, with more than 81% of the total number of papers published in collaboration (81.3%). As for collaborative publications, almost 56% were national collaborations and 45% were international collaborations.

Since our formal incorporation as an Institute in 2009, we have been implementing measures and actions of particular importance that have laid the foundations for a new organizational culture based on equality, diversity and non-discrimination. Our values are aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals, the 2030 Agenda and the Corporate Social Responsibility policy of the Hospital Universitario La Paz, within whose scope the Foundation is included. The doctoral thesis will include the following research areas:
- Genetic studies to search for new genes and variants causing skeletal dysplasias (genome, exomes).
- Development of long read sequencing technology to improve the identification and characterisation of variants causing skeletal dysplasias.
- Functional studies for the characterisation of the identified variants and understanding of the pathogenicity mechanism of the new genes involved.

Specific Requirements

Candidate requirements:
- Degree: Bachelor's or Master's degree in [Biology, Biomedicine, Biochemistry, Biotechnology, Genetics or others related to the life sciences.
-Average academic record equal to or higher than 7.5.
- Good level of English (oral and written).

It will be an asset:
-Previous experience or interest in human genetics, molecular biology, bioinformatics.
-Previous experience in laboratory techniques related to molecular genetics.
-Knowledge of bioinformatics tools and programming.

Benefits
  • Pre-doctoral contract: 4 years
  • Professional category of pre-doctoral researcher, Group II, Area 2, according to the collective bargaining agreement.
  • Full time of 37.5 hours per week.
  • Gross annual salary: First year €16.900
  • Private matters: 6 working days per year.
  • Vacation: 22 working days per year.
  • December 24 and 31 are non-business days.
Eligibility criteria

The evaluation process must comply with the following criteria and sub-criteria:
Criterion 1. Academic and/or scientific-technical background of the candidate (up to 50 points).
Sub-criterion 1.a): Scientific and technical contributions (up to 45 points). The academic record and other curricular merits of the candidate will be assessed, as well as their suitability to the tasks to be performed in terms of training and professional experience.

Sub-criterion 1.b): Mobility and internationalisation (up to 5 points). The following will be assessed relevance and impact of the candidate's stays in national and international centres and/or in the industrial sector on his/her research career, taking into account the prestige of the entity receiving the stay and the activity carried out there.


Criterion 2. Suitability of the candidate for the research activities to be carried out (up to 50 points).The suitability of the person for the programme will be assessed, research project or activities to be carried out will be assessed on the basis of their previous training and experience. previous experience. Selection process

Once candidates send their application to the IdiPAZ email address, their applications are stored until the deadline for receipt of applications for the offer is up. The HR department of IdiPAZ will make a first selection of applications selecting those who meet the criteria required in the offer. The selected applications are then evaluated by the selection committee, composed of the head of human resources at IdiPAZ, the President of the IdiPAZ Internal Scientific Committee and the Project Manager which will apply the scales described in each. call for applications.
