Offer Description
The Department of Food Science and Technology, Institut of Food Science is currently seeking a Postdoctoral Research Associate (temporary replacement).
Extent of employment: 40 hours per week
Duration of employment: 3rd of March 2025, for the time being limited until the end of maternity leave (with option to extend it to the duration of the maternity leave)
Allocation in compliance with the Collective Agreement for University Staff to job group: B1 lit. b
Gross monthly salary: (depending on previous eligible experience) at least: € 4.752,30
(payable 14 times per year)
Responsibilities:
- Research in the field of food microbiology and food hygiene with a focus on food quality and food safety
- Presentation of research results at scientific and non-scientific events in German and English
- University teaching in the Department of Food Quality Assurance, Food Microbiology and Hygiene in German and English (exercises, seminars, lectures) and supervision or co-supervision of theses within the scope of the legal possibilities
- Independent planning and implementation of research projects
- Knowledge transfer and promotion of young scientists in line with the social responsibility of the University of Natural Resources and Life Sciences, Vienna
- Assumption of administrative activities within the framework of university self-administration
- Participation in the current research areas of the institute as well as willingness to cooperate with internal and external partners to strengthen the BOKU field of competence "Agricultural Production and Food" and the current cross-cutting research topic "Food and Health Security"
- Expansion of microbiological core competencies (food, food safety, food spoilage, safety, microbes) within the institute and in cooperation with the BOKU Core Facility Food & Bio Processing and the other BOKU Core Facilities
Required skills and qualifications:
- Completed doctorate in the professional context of food microbiology and hygiene or food safety and quality
- Excellent written and spoken German and English skills
- Research experience in the field of food microbiology and hygiene with a focus on food safety and quality
- Knowledge of microbiological and molecular biology laboratory practice (anaerobic systems, cell culture, qPCR, MALDI-TOF MS)
- Experience in the scientific processing of projects (application research)
- Teamwork and communication skills
- Initiative and responsible working style
- Experience as a lecturer in university teaching (proof of didactic skills)
Desired skills and qualifications:
- Experience in conducting research projects
- Experience in dealing with food spoilage pathogens
- High social competence, reliability and independence
