Offer Description
The Center for Research and Studies in Sociology (CIES-Iscte) of Iscte - Knowledge and Innovation is calling for applications for one (1) PhD Student Research Grant in the context of the MIL Community Connections project, funded by the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation, under the European Media and Information Fund's (EMIF).
Work plan
The work plan will consist of research to support the MIL Community Connections project, such as: creating and validating content in disinformation for training librarians and other professionals; organizing, implementing and evaluating hybrid training courses; processing data and writing reports and producing materials linked to the project's outputs. Monitoring the development of the entire project, including team meetings and organizing events to promote and disseminate the project, ensuring that work is done on time and within the parameters set out in the project plan.

Admission requirements
Applicants must hold a master’s degree in journalism or communication sciences and be enrolled in a PhD program in Communication Sciences (according to Article 6 of the Research Scholarships Regulations of the Foundation for Science and Technology, I.P. (Reg. no. 950/2019).
Preferential factors
a) Experience in collecting and analyzing documentation and statistical information;
b) At least 10 years' experience as a journalist, with greater experience being valued, particularly in editing or management positions;
c) Experience as a trainer and/or teacher;
d) Production of research in the specific area of journalism in the context of the PhD in Communication Sciences.
e) International research experience in the specific area of disinformation studies.

Additional Information
The amount corresponds to €1,259.64 in accordance with the FCT Research Grant Regulations in force (Regulation No. 950/2019). The amount of the allowance is increased by the corresponding voluntary social insurance, if the candidate chooses to receive it, as well as personal accident insurance. The grant will be paid monthly by bank transfer.
The scholarship will last for 11 months and is scheduled to start on January 1, 2025. The scholarship contract may be renewed within the duration of the research project and in accordance with the stipulations of Article 6.4 of the Research Scholarship Regulations of the Foundation for Science and Technology, I.P. in force.
The selection process will be based on curricular assessment. If several candidates demonstrate that they have the right profile to carry out the work plan, the selection board reserves the right to call candidates for an interview, which will have a weighting of 40% in the final grade. If the selection board considers that interviews are not necessary, the final weighting of the curricular assessment will be 100%.
The curricular assessment criteria are based on:
a) a master's degree in journalism or communication (40%);
b) the experience demonstrated in the items indicated in the preferential factors (60%).
Candidates' curricular assessment will be carried out in accordance with the criteria indicated, on an integer scale between 0 and 20.
The selection board reserves the right to:
a) invite the highest-scoring candidate to the position in question, following the order established in the final ranking list, whenever the selected candidate does not meet the requirements for formalizing the contract or in the event of unavailability;
b) not awarding the grant if none of the candidates matches the desired profile.
