Offer Description
Call is open for the award of 1 (one) Research Grant under the project VOCMemsense – DRI/India/0430/2020 – Oxide nanowire memsensing platform integrated with nanoscale oxide thin-film transistors circuitry for monitoring of infectious respiratory diseases and air quality , financed by the “Fundação para a Ciência e Tecnologia, I.P.”, for the development of R&D activities to be carried out by doctoral students or by graduates and masters enrolled in courses not leading to an academic degree, under the following conditions:
Recipient admission requirements /Profile:
- Be enrolled in a PhD or be a graduate and master enrolled in a non-academic degree course;
- Not exceed, with the conclusion of the scholarship contract in question, an accumulated period of 2 (two) years, consecutive or interspersed, if is a master enrolled in a non-academic degree course, or of 4 (four) years if enrolled in a Doctorate;
- Candidates must have a master in Micro and Nanotechnologies Engineering, Physics, Electronics or similar areas.
- Candidates must have solid knowledge in memristive device operation and governing physics, as well as experience on circuit design in EDA tools;
- Knowledge on programming and cleanroom processing of thin film devices is desirable;
- Excellent English written and verbal communication skills will be required for technical reporting and working in a collaborative environment.
Candidates who have obtained the degree abroad must have the degree recognized in Portugal, pursuant to Decree-Law No. 66/2018 of August 16.
Work plan: The candidate will develop research work performing the following tasks with the following objectives:
The aim of the project is to explore the employment of new concept of memsensing device, where memristor crosses the path with sensing properties. Flexible electronics is a target technology by implementing amorphous oxide semiconductor (AOS) memristor sensors and integration with mature AOS based thin-film transistors (TFTs) as support electronic towards a novel low-cost and drastically power efficient sensor module. AOS materials are well-known due to the photo/humidity/gas responsivity followed by change of the resistance state.
The first task will be on fabrication and characterization of memsensing devices in a frame of teamwork. To be able to design complex integrated circuits, good device models are mandatory. Therefore, the research plan will follow on modeling and processing of a robust memsensing system. The third task is full characterization of device and noise studies. The final model will be described in Verilog-A for usage in spice like simulators. The next step is application of existent process design kit (PDK), available at UNINOVA, to contemplate the new devices in a single circuit design framework.
Applicable legislation and regulations: Statute of the Scientific Research Grantee, approved by Law No. 40/2004 of August 18, amended and republished by Decree-Law No. 202/2012, of August 27 and amended by Decree-Law No. 233/2012 of 29 October, Law No. 12/2013 of January 29 and Decree-Law No. 123/2019 of August 28 and The Regulation of Research Grants of the Foundation for Science and Technology, IP - 2019, available in https://www.fct.pt/apoios/bolsas/docs/RegulamentoBolsasFCT2019.pdf and https://dre.pt/application/file/a/127230968.
