Offer Description

The BioRobotics Institute of Sant'Anna School for Advanced Studies will soon open two Post-Doc positions funded by the ERC Startin Grant Project I-BOT (PI: Dr. Veronica Iacovacci, Medical Microrobotics Lab). The I-BOT project aims to push the boundaries of medical microrobotics by developing the first generation of implantable microrobots based on smart materials responsive to Ultrasound and magnetic fields.

We are looking for highly motivated and talented candidates with a strong background in the areas of materials science, smart materials (profile 1) and magnetism, control engineerign, mechanical engineering, robotics (profile 2). The successful candidates will become part of a vibrant multidisciplinary group, with an international scientific profile.

The selected candidates will participate in the research activities of the I-BOT project, holding responsibilities for the coordination and correct implementation of scientific tasks.  Moreover, the successful candidates will support the PI with management of the laboratory infrastructure and co-supervision of PhD and MSc students.

Required

  • A PhD in engineering (mechanical, control engineering, biomedical engineering, robotics), applied physics, material science or related fields
  • Experience with physics-based modelling, programming (profile 2) 
  • Hand-on experimental experience and a track record of experimental research 
  • Strong attitude towards problem solving and experimental activity

 

Preferred

Experience in one of the following domains

  • microfabrication/3d printing
  • design of smart-material based systems 
  • magnetism/hyperthermia/Ultrasound
  • magnetic control and robotics 
  • Ultrasound imaging
  • ultrasound stimulation
  • multiphysics modelling
  •  shape memory polymers
