Offer Description

The Center for Research and Studies in Sociology (CIES-Iscte) of the University Institute of Lisbon is calling for applications for (1) Research Grant for a Master's Student, in the context of the project Cmp_Pop Roma- Knowing, Mapping, Including: The Roma/Ciganos Population in Portugal, funded by the Foundation for Science and Technology, I.P (2023.10572.CIG), in collaboration with the Economic and Social Council and the Agency for Integration, Migration and Asylum, I.P., under the following conditions:

Work plan:
The work plan will consist of supporting the research of the Cmi_Pop Roma project, namely support in writing reports and producing materials linked to the project's outputs, monitoring the development of the entire project, mainly in terms of administrative support, support for the preparation, application of questionnaire surveys and their processing; conducting, transcribing and analysing interviews; supporting the supervision of ethnographic studies; supporting the dynamization of 3 participatory workshops; supporting and participating in team meetings and organizing events to promote and disseminate the project, ensuring that the work was done on time and within the parameters set out in the project plan.

Preferential factors:
a) Experience in collecting and analyzing statistical data;
b) Experience in conducting and analyzing qualitative interviews;
c) Experience in conducting ethnographies and/or using participatory methods;
d) Experience of using MaxQda and SPSS software;
e) Experience of collaborating on research and/or intervention projects;
f) Interest in carrying out a Master's dissertation or research work in the area of Roma/Gypsy studies and in the context of this project.

Specific Requirements

Applicants must have a degree in Sociology or Social Psychology and be enrolled in a Master's program in the field of Sociology or Social Psychology or Bachelors and Masters enrolled in non-degree courses (according to Article 6 of the Research Grant Regulations of the Foundation for Science and Technology, I.P. (Reg. No. 950/2019).
Academic degrees obtained in foreign countries need to be registered by a Portuguese institution, by Decree-Law no. 66/2018, of August 16, and Ministerial Order no. 33/2019, of January 25. The presentation of the certificate is mandatory when signing the contract.

Benefits

The amount corresponds to €990.98 in accordance with the FCT Research Grant Regulations in force (Regulation No. 950/2019). The amount of the allowance is increased by the corresponding voluntary social insurance, if the candidate chooses to receive it, as well as personal accident insurance. The grant will be paid monthly by bank transfer.

The scholarship will last for 6 months, starting on January 7th. The scholarship contract may be renewed within the duration of the research project and in accordance with the stipulations of Article 6.4 of the Research Scholarship Regulations of the Fundação para a Ciência e a Tecnologia, I.P. in force.

Selection process

The selection process will be based on curricular assessment. If several candidates demonstrate that they have the right profile to carry out the work plan, the jury reserves the right to call the three highest-scoring candidates for an interview, which will have a weighting of 20% in the final score.
If the jury deems it unnecessary to hold interviews, the final weighting of the curricular assessment will be 100%.
The curricular assessment criteria are based on:
a) academic record (30%),
b) demonstrated experience in the items indicated in the preferential factors (70%).
The curricular assessment of candidates will be carried out in accordance with the criteria indicated and will be carried out on an integer scale between 0 and 20.

 

The selection board reserves the right to:
a) invite the highest-scoring candidate to the position in question, following the order established in the final ranking list, whenever the selected candidate does not meet the requirements for formalizing the contract or in the event of unavailability.
b) not awarding the grant if none of the candidates matches the desired profile.


Composition of the selection panel:
Candidates will be selected by a jury made up of: Dr. Inês Barbosa (University of Porto), who will preside, and the members Dr. Maria Manuela Mendes (CIES-Iscte) and Dr. Pedro Candeias (CIES-Iscte).

iv. Other supporting documents deemed relevant, including letter(s) of recommendation and certificates of participation in qualitative or quantitative analysis training/courses (SPSS, MaxQda), research and/or intervention projects, internships; a copy of theses, papers or publications already completed, etc.
