Offer Description

The project focuses on investigating geological factors that have implications for the sustainable geo-storage of CO2 and H2. The objective is to advance and deepen our understanding of the effect that sedimentary heterogeneity of clastic reservoirs has on the injectivity of these gases, trapping mechanisms, and storage capacity. This is achieved through the analysis and 3D modeling of outcrop analogs.

Responsibilities:

The postdoctoral researcher will be responsible for leading and executing key activities within the project, ensuring that the established objectives are met. Responsibilities include:

  • Developing and executing data acquisition according to the research plan established for the project.
  • Collaborating with other researchers on the team and participating in scientific discussions within and outside the research group.
  • Managing and analyzing data obtained during the research, ensuring the quality and accuracy of the results.
  • Presenting research findings at conferences, seminars, and internal meetings.
  • Writing periodic reports, scientific papers, and publications in high-impact indexed journals.
  • Contributing to the continuous development and improvement of the project by proposing new ideas and research approaches.
  • Meeting deadlines and adhering to the quality standards set by the research team and the institution.

Functions and tasks:

  • Design and oversee the execution of drilling with core recovery and geophysical well logging.
  • Acquire photogrammetric data using RPAS for constructing Digital Outcrop Models.
  • Perform high-resolution sampling of cores and outcrops, selecting a representative number that captures the previously described heterogeneities at the macroscale.
  • Interpret field data, including: (1) photointerpretation of the selected outcrops; (2) geometric analysis of the architectural elements in the selected outcrops; (3) construction of high-resolution sedimentological logs along the outcrop; (4) facies analysis and facies association definitions of the identified geobodies in the outcrop.
  • Interpret Digital Outcrop Models using specific software for digitizing the outcrop interpretations developed during fieldwork.
  • Describe the slabbed cores recovered during the drilling phase, focusing on facies analysis, facies association definitions, and comparing them with field observations.
  • Process, interpret, and integrate well logging data with outcrop and core data.
  • Perform petrographic characterization of sandstones using optical petrography analysis to determine texture, mineralogy, cementation, and diagenetic controls.
  • Conduct petrophysical characterization of the sandstones by obtaining porosity and permeability data.
  • Digitalize and integrate the whole data in a reservoir modeling platform.
