Offer Description

The Institute of Horticultural Production Systems – Sect. Phytomedizin (IPP), WG Applied Entomology, welcomes applications for the following position starting at the earliest possible date:

Research Staff / Academic Staff (m/f/d) in the field
Applied Entomology (salary scale 13 TV-L, 100%).

The fixed-term position ends 30.09.2027

Your role:

The project is part of the joint project "Mobile attraction and monitoring system for fine scale monitoring of insect pests using an adaptive, fully automatic LED trap with simultaneous laser control of identified pests" and is funded as part of the BMEL's innovation promotion programme in the funding area: Healthy crops and sustainable plant protection methods.

  • Establishment and maintenance of permanent rearing protocols for selected insect pest species, natural enemies and host plants
  • Literature research on the visual and olfactory orientation of selected insect pests and their natural antagonists
  • Investigation of the effectiveness of visual and olfactory stimuli on the attractiveness of novel trapping systems
  • Investigation of potential disturbance factors on the dispersal behaviour of selected insects at the light trap and in the natural habitat
  • Integration of potential olfactory attractants and disturbance factors to optimise the catchability of trapping systems under field conditions
  • Development of application scenarios for the light trap in infested areas in southern Germany and integration into existing IPM strategies

The successful candidate will be employed at Leibniz Universität Hannover and will be part of a highly motivated interdisciplinary project team of the Laser Centre Hannover and various companies (KWS, AMW-Nützlinge, DHLicht, iotec GmbH).

The prerequisite for employment is a university degree in agriculture/horticulture or biology/ecology with a specialisation in entomology.
