Offer Description
The University of Iceland is looking for a full-time Assistant Professor in the field of Information Science with a focus on information behaviour, including the organization, management and sharing of information and knowledge.
The assistant professor is required to teach in the field of information science at master's level and be able to supervise master`s and doctoral students. We are looking for a university teacher who can teach subjects related to library and information science, and also has expertise related to one or more specialist areas within information studies. The lecturer is also required to carry out research in the field of information science. Research emphasis should include for instance the role of libraries, information behaviour, organization and management, as well as information and media literacy alongside various technical developments such as digitization and artificial intelligence. We are looking for a person who is interested in devoting their work to the academia, promoting teaching and research, and building a growing academic field in information science.

- Applicants must hold a doctoral degree in Library- and Information science.
- A proven record of publications within the field of Information Science or related fields in international peer-reviewed journals is necessary.
- Experience in multinational research collaboration and comparative research in the academic field is desirable.
- Teaching experience within higher education in the field of Information Science is necessary.
- Practical experience within the field is desirable.
- Resourcefulness, confidence and ability to work independently are required
- Good communication skills and proficiency in sharing information and knowledge are necessary.
The evaluation of applicants will take into account how well they fulfill the needs of the department of information science within the faculty of Social Sciences.

The applicant must list up to eight of their most important publications in relation to this position. The applicant must include a copy of these publications along with the application or indicate where they can be accessed electronically. When multiple authors are listed in a publication, the applicant must include an account of their contribution to the publication. Applications and accompanying documents, which are not submitted in electronic form, must be sent in duplicate to the Division of Science and Innovation, University of Iceland, Main Building, Sæmundargata 2, 101 Reykjavik, Iceland.
The period of employment will be five years with the possibility of a permanent contract at the end of this period, cf. paragraph 3, Article 31 of the Regulation for the University of Iceland no. 569/2009. The position will start on February 1, 2025, or as agreed upon, but not before the hiring committees finish their work.
The processing of applications, evaluation of applicants' competence and hiring process shall be in accordance with the Act on Public Higher Education Institutions no. 85/2008 and the Regulation for the University of Iceland no. 569/2009.
