Offer Description
At University of Barcelona we are seeking to recruit 1 PhD research fellow in the area of Social Anthropology with competences in studies of bordering for 2 years within the framework of the Ramón y Cajal project of Dr. Martin Lundsteen entitled Urban B/ordering in the EU.
The project will tackle the ongoing local-global processes of urban b/ordering in the EU, by analysing how socio-legal practices produce urban borders and sociocultural boundaries. It will focus on the actual workings and implementation of urban b/ordering on the ground. It will do this comparatively by providing a theoretically informed, in-depth ethnographic account of the implementation and the socio-political consequences of b/ordering practices in different social, political, and economic contexts. This will include an integral analysis of the interplay between the different scales, agents, narratives, and interests. The purpose is to offer a field-based theory that contributes to our understanding of the actual working of urban b/ordering, that is both the role it plays in managing marginal social activities and groups and its (un)intended societal and political consequences.
Within this framework, the tasks to be carried out during the doctoral period will consist of:
- Preparation and execution of the PhD research project closely linked to the framework of the project.
- Collaborate in the coordination of the research line Migrations and Racial Capitalism as well as in the seminar derived from it.
- Collaborate in the preparation of an ERC Consolidator proposal and other similar calls.
Actively contribute to the rest of the activities of the project.
