Offer Description

The HEU Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions Doctoral Network (HEU-MSCA-DN-2023-101168725 INTELLIWIND)  “Intelligent Systems for autonomous wind power plant operations” invites applications for 2 early-stage researcher (ESR) positions at University of Granada, available with a starting date in the period about 1st –January 2025 for a period of three years. 

The INTELLIWIND project provides research and training opportunities for early-stage researchers in the fields of Prognostics and Health Management (PHM), structural health monitoring (SHM), Maintenance and Operation Modelling, Digital Twin, Climate predictions and Smart Data Management.

The aim of the research programme is to provide the ESRs with the practical skills and knowledge so that they can perform top-level research, both in the academic and non-academic sectors. 

 

Specific projects are described below:

• ESR10 (Knowledge-based platform for impact assessment of autonomous O&M on energy production). Position details:

  1. Main Supervisor: Dr. Manuel Chiachio Ruano (University of Granada)
  2. Team of Co-supervisors/Industrial tutor: Prof. Athanasios Kolios (T.U. Denmark), Dr. Juan Chiachío (Univ. of Granada)/Dr. Juan Fernandez (QUANTIA ENGINEERING & CONSULTANCY, S.L.)

  4. Work Location: Faculty of Engineering, (University of Granada), Granada (Spain)
  5. Specific requirements: Master degree in any of (but not limited to) the following topics: Structural Engineering, Applied Mathematics, Applied Physics, Computer Science, Mechanical/Industrial Engineering, Aeronautical Engineering, Naval & Oceanic Engineering, Civil Engineering. Required strong background in computer science and programming. 
  6. Summary of project's main objective: Formulation of a holistic computational platform for integrated wind-farm maintenance information modelling and decision-making, considering wind-farm KPIs and stakeholder policies.
     

 

• ESR15 (Secure IT framework for autonomous wind farm operation and maintenance based on blockchain, smart contracts and AI). Position details:

  1. Main Supervisor: Dr. Juan Chiachio Ruano (University of Granada)
  2. Team of Co-supervisors/Industrial tutor: Dr. Filipe Magalhaes (Univ. of Porto), Dr. Manuel Chiachío (Univ. of Granada)/Dr. Juan Fernandez (QUANTIA ENGINEERING & CONSULTANCY, S.L.)

Specific requirements: Master degree in any of (but not limited to) the following topics:  Applied Mathematics, Applied Physics, Computer Science, Mechanical/Industrial Engineering, Structural Engineering,Aeronautical Engineering, Naval & Oceanic Engineering, Civil Engineering. Required strong background in computer science and programming. 
  6. Summary of project's main objective: Development of a secure, trustable, explainable and interactive structural health monitoring (SHM) platform for wind-farms combining AI algorithms, decentralised knowledge graphs, and blockchain.

Eligibility criteria

 

Marie Sklodowska-Curie Actions Eligibility rules apply. Particularly:

  1. Mobility Rule: The researcher (any nationality) must not have resided or carried out his/her main activity (work, studies, etc.) in the country of his/her host organisation for more than 12 months in the 3 years immediately prior to his/her recruitment (excluding vacations and short stays).
  2. Early Stage Researchers (ESR): ESR shall, at the date of recruitment, be within the first four years of full-time equivalent research experience (*) and have not been awarded a doctoral degree. The 4-years period is measured from the date when the researcher obtained the degree which formally entitle him/her to embark on a doctorate either in the country in which the degree was obtained or the country in which the researcher is recruited.

(*) Research and development activities (R&D) in any institution companies, research organizations, government agencies, universities, etc.) are considered as research experience. Teaching in universities is also considered as research experience since it's part of the research & academic career.

Selection process

Interested candidates should send an application (in English) containing: 

  1. Researcher declaration document including: (a) self-declaration about Eligibility; (b) self-declaration about English proficiency (max. 1 page).
  2. Applicant CV (max. 4 pages).
  3. Major academic transcripts (bachelor and master, if any).
  4. Personal motivation letter (max. 300 words)
  5. Research statement in accordance to the Research Project applied (max. 500 words)
  6. (optional) Up to 2 recommendation letters from a recognised expert who does not have relations with the INTELLIWIND project.
