Position Title: Post-doc 

 

Requirements: 

 

The ideal candidate for the Post-doc position in the Structural and Functional Genomics Research Group, in collaboration with the Nanomaterials, Biophysics, and Medical Biotechnology Research Group (Lukasiewicz Research Network - Krakow Institute of Technology), should: 

 

  • hold a PhD degree in the field of exact and natural sciences, in the discipline of chemical sciences or computer science, obtained no earlier than 7 years prior to the year of employment in the project. This period may be extended in accordance with the rules described in the cost catalog of research projects funded by the NCN. 
  • have a scientific track record documented by publications in internationally recognized journals. 
  • have experience in conducting research projects as a principal investigator and/or participant. 
  • possess experience in the fields of medicinal chemistry, cheminformatics, and bioinformatics. 
  • have experience in research related to drug design and development, as well as antibacterial materials. 
  • knowledge and experience in microbiological research related to mechanisms of (antibiotic) resistance will be an additional asset. 
  • be proficient in the Python programming language. 
  • demonstrate proficiency in working with terminals and high-performance computing (HPC) systems and effectively utilizing these tools for designing computational process models. 
  • be proficient in using data analysis packages (e.g., pandas), cheminformatics tools (e.g., RDKit), and predictive model design frameworks (e.g., PyTorch, NumPy, scikit-learn), as well as in clearly visualizing results in the form of graphs. 
  • have knowledge of AI methods (e.g., neural networks, machine learning techniques) and their applications in bioinformatics, cheminformatics, and biopharmaceutics. 
  • demonstrate advanced proficiency in English at the C1 level. 
  • possess competencies such as scientific independence, availability, excellent work organization, the ability to work in an interdisciplinary scientific team, and creative thinking. 

Tasks: 

  • Conduct research within a project focused on identifying new combinations of drugs and antibacterial molecules for the development of innovative nanoantibiotics aimed at treating chronic wounds. 
  • Participate in interdisciplinary research and work closely with the Project Leader and the project team from Łukasiewicz-KIT. 
  • Develop QSAR ML tools for predictive models targeting specific molecular objectives. 
  • Integrate and perform qualitative analysis of data from various sources, using knowledge graphs to create models predicting the synergistic effects of antibacterial compounds. 
  • Prepare input data necessary for building predictive models of adverse antibiotic combinations and validate the input data concerning their chemical properties in the context of models predicting the antimicrobial effects of specific combinations. 
  • Conduct chemical validation of input data and optimize input parameters for the models. 
  • Analyze drug-matrix interactions in silico. 
  • Configure input data models with computational clusters. 
  • Optimize data storage efficiency and security. 
  • Analyze the results obtained from experiments, prepare scientific publications, project reports, and present findings at national and international conferences.

Employment Conditions: 

  • Employment will be offered in the form of a full-time employment contract for a duration of 12 months. 
  • The salary will be in accordance with the NCN rates for this position (i.e., PLN 140,000.00 gross gross/year).

  • Sano – Centre for Computational Personalized Medicine International Research Foundation announces a competition for a Post-doc position in the NCN SONATA-19 project (2023/51/D/NZ7/02596) titled "One Step to Game Changer": Combined Antimicrobial Therapy Based on AI and Nanotechnology to Combat Challenging Diabetes Foot Infections. The project is being carried out by the Łukasiewicz Research Network – Krakow Institute of Technology (Project Leader: Dr. Barbara Pucelik) in consortium with Sano - Centre for Computational Personalized Medicine (Project Coordinator: Dr. hab. inż. Maciej Malawski).
